I'm in the middle of a project and just found out that one of the songs was tracked way too fast and I can't sing it properly!!! Redoing the drums is not an option. Since I only have tracked drums, bass and scratch guitar/vocal, I could still try to slow down those drum tracks, probably redoing the bass.
I use Logic and I think it's got several ways to do it. I just need to find out what's the best one and how to maintain the sound quality as much as possible.
Any tips/hints? If you've ever done this, how far can you go before artifacts are audible? The song is so fast that even a few BPM would be helpful here.

I don't know logic, but Reaper has a time stretch ability that works decently if you don't go crazy with it. Maybe download a version, import the stems and try to stretch it a little and see if it sounds ok?

Wave labs by far has the best time stretching I've ever heard. Id just get the demo of it and do your thing and move on!
It is extremely good at it and not too hard to do.

You‘ve got flex time in logic.

You can varispeed it down, it will change the pitch though. For drums it will make them deeper sounding, I like it better usually. For the other instruments, it will detune them, then you sing over the new melody (or re-record the other instruments). I assume this was one way they could detune the song 1/2 step so the singer could hit notes back in the day? So when our fav guitarist was tuned 1/2 step down for certain songs, doesn't always mean they actually tuned it that way. Could be the producer slowed the song down and let the singer do their thing.

With smart tempo, if you right click on the region, you have the option of conforming it to session tempo, if you have set the session bpm before, the region will conform to it.

Serato Pitch N Time Pro. The best pitch / tempo plugin option out there from my perspective. Not cheap, but it's paid for itself over and over so many times for me....

But it has it's limits which are a lot closer than they should be for the price. Wave lab is still the best I've ever hear. It's amazing. I've done 20bpm slower with no pitch change. Musicians couldn't believe either.

Are you referring to WaveLab by Steinberg?

I went with Izotope RX which I already own, since this had to be done now. Still curious about WaveLab!
I slowed down the drums 10%, from around 184 bpm to around 166. It sounds good enough, not perfect but more than serviceable.

Varispeed the way to go. It worked for the Beatles That is unless you like your hi-hats and cymbals to sound like they've been run through a bit-crusher/ring modulator/distortion pedal.

If doing it digitally, Logic X has a very nice built-in global varispeed that keeps your grid ion-tact and syncs the pitch of your midi parts etc. Changing it to semitones I found the best to keep it somewhat normalized.
For whatever reason many other DAWs don't have this. We get 8,452 multi-fx plugins that sound like crap, but no easy-to-use global varispeed, which is artifact free and like the original first FX processor.
