Hello Everybody We did a little video comparing both mics. The SA800 will begin shipping on the 15th of December. SSL 9000 preamps. No EQ or FX. Our head of customer support sang on this one. We still have about 20 spots left for pre-orders for this batch, more info on: stamaudio.com/shop/microphones/sa-800/I hope you enjoy it Thanks Josh

Are these going into the same type of pre & have the same gain? Mic A seems to have an air & presence that Mic B doesn't have. Mic A would have to be the Sony - unless it's been EQ'd or something.

A lovely rendition!
On my Sony headphones, the two mikes are sounding very similar . ] Very balanced, present and nice air without stridency: impressive mikes !

Camila has such a great voice. Both mics sound pretty damn good - but if I had to decide - mic b has a slightly smoother sound to my ears.

I think either mic worked well. A seemed a little more open. B a little more mellow. I have no reference for the c800g as I’ve never used one. My guess is A is the Sony due to that extra bit of detail in it. Curious to hear the results.

Nice one Camila, I told you your voice was real special (duh) and looking forward to hearing your growl again. More!
Anyway glad to see you using your voice and art and I couldn't be any happier with my Stam 1073 MPA; I am using both channels everyday on vocals.
Mic A is the Sony and of course the vocal chain is the same or the whole shebang would be fraud and that is why the mics sound so close less $9 grand and some change.

Updated with new video and results I tweaked the mic a little further to get it to a point where I feel it's as close as it can get.

Is the video above the new one, or is it still to be posted?
That's Camila? Wow.

Logo is on the right displayed when each mic is sounding! You never stated which is the Stam on the original video It doesn't matter This is the final version that will ship so this version is what matters, not the prototypes and I don't think I ever intended to reveal which one was which on the first one. I normally don't with prototypes if my memory serves me well

That's really well done and may be the closest comparison I've heard to date. Even the Neumann U67 reissue isn't exactly the same as the original.

Thank you guys
Thank you for your concerns. Things are calming down in Chile and there is a light at the end of the tunnel for this strange nightmare the country became for the past 6 weeks. All workers are safe, we are luckily located in a remote area.
With regards to the mic, after the first prototype I realized there was a little tweaking I could still do. Every unit we ship is tested against either the original or reference with a singer. We don't relay on graphs although I do sweep all of them. This insures that we get them to an almost identical point.
I am very very happy with this one. The 251 video is next but before that we are releasing the SA67 video. Again, a lot of tweaking, patience and listening for hours everyday. There is no magical recipe. All parts interact with each other and even a small adjustment on a capacitor can make the entire difference.
The easiest to match was the SA47, it just pretty much nailed it from the first listening test. The 87 was a bit more challenging. We had many prototypes made. The 67 just as hard. The 47FET was quite simple.
Anyways, I won't bore you further. I hope you are all doing great
Josh

Glad to hear you're OK Joshua. The SA800 sounds really good. I think you'll sell as many as you can make.
