Lately I’ve been using Oktava MK-012-01 or 414’s on toms but this week went with the ol’ 421’s. AEA R88 is the overhead. Green kit was used for a live video. I did eventually plugged them in haha

Sounds great Jesse. Love the Rolling Stones vibe in the song too.

From a remote in an old former church-turned-music venue. We also tracked a string quartet in the same space later that afternoon. Attachments:

Question… I notice on the pics from Sloweye and Subspace that their overhead mic on the hi hat side of the kit is higher. Does this create phasing issues with the other overhead?
I know some setups like mixerman have mics at different levels, but that seems to be very different positioning, and this looks more like A/B setup. Not implying anything is wrong or right, just trying to learn from others.
I have most experience with A/B at even heights or ORTF set up centered.

Usually the reason for that is measuring the two microphones to be equal distance from the snare.

Usually the reason for that is measuring the two microphones to be equal distance from the snare. Agreed. I couldn't tell if that was the case here, as they look about the same distance out on the side, but maybe it's just the photo angle. Other than that, good reason to raise that side higher?

Hi-hat side is higher due to the snare offset towards that side, mics are equidistant to match arrival time and gain balance.

I think it helps with the imaging of the toms a bit too, since the floor tom is always physically lower than the rack tom. The thing to watch out for is if the cymbal on the floor tom side then sounds too close in comparison to the one over the snare. More often than not, that's not a big issue.

Nice man! Looks like you have a great spot. I’m in Portland, it’s nice to see another RGO’er in the PNW.

Did an interesting three mic setup the other day. Kick beater -> RE20 -> Coil CA70 Snare -> Unidyne 57 -> Coil CA70 Front of kit -> R84 -> Retro Powerstrip (with some compression) Put the new Kush AR-1 and a little Echoboy on the FOK mic and it was surprisingly Zeppelin-ish.
