Here is the current setup. There is a drum template in Cubase that is the starting point for mixing. All preamps are Yamaha MLA-8. ALl inputs are printed/tracked "to tape" with Softube Tape. Would be great to hear a sample of this setup!

Here are the isolated drum tracks from my new song "wishing you well" drive.google.com/file/d/134ftGnvGPSy9_dXjhtD_tdf6eFOYPXs8/view?usp=sharingReverb is Tverb from Eventide Everything is as pictured in my previous post This song was written "drums first" then overdubs of bass, guitar, rhodes, and finally vocals. Drums first is a really effective songwriting trick for me sometimes. Takes me to unexpected places.

Do you find they add ambience? I'm sure it's all about the position of the kit in the room as well. And, thanks for posting the track!

It's really a living area more than a studio, the stones are mostly for decoration. But that being said, I didn't really have to treat this room at all. The stones I think are giving some diffusion. The big glass door lets bass out. The wood paneled walls probably sound better than drywall. As a happy accident, it works fine.

Svart, what's goin on with the low tom there? Is that an optical illusion or is there a port on the side that you've put a mic in to?
Edit: I think the grill color of the mic is blending in to the tom color, on my phone it was hard to distinguish the two

It's colloquially called the "crotch" mic. It's just not inserted in the right spot in the picture.

No click on this one. I am trying to get better at grooving and keeping a funky time with drums. This may be as close as I have gotten, I don't know. The song is not going to win too much but the recording of it was fun and I like the way the snare drum sounds. Love that LM400 Ludwig. The "most recorded snare drum of all time" is the rumor.

This is a bit of a departure for me, but it turned out great on a grimy old funk instrumental record. U47 overhead RE20 kick RCA BN2A tube mixer summed to one channel Scully 280 4 track half inch Sounds legit. (Finally figured out how to upload photos. Sort of...)

U47 overhead RE20 kick RCA BN2A tube mixer summed to on channel Yeah that's a real hot input signal for a BN-2A Indeed. They wanted crunchy, and it's crunchy. The drummer is a very light touch jazz guy, not a hard hitter, so I used it to muscle him up a bit. (Normally I use my 44's with the BN2a...) I'll ask the guys if it's ok to post a track. (not released yet.) Proud to say it was a one day record. Tracked and mixed. Done! Some records take me 2 years... Like the new Frazey Ford that coincidentally just got "album of the week" in The Guardian today! (Comes out tomorrow.) www.theguardian.com/music/2020/feb/06/frazey-ford-u-kin-b-the-sun-review-arts-and-crafts

OK. Here's the first minute or so of the first tune of that mono setup pictured above - U47/Re20 into BN2a into scully 280 - EcoPlate (EMT140). The guys in the band said they are fine with it. ("we fully support your nerd engineer forums" was the reply.) Song: Blindly Running Towards the Ocean Band: Idle Moon (Unmastered, unreleased.) www.dropbox.com/s/084a7do47ebwixk/Blindly%20for%20RGO.wav?dl=0
