I have some 500 series mic pres that I want hooked up to an xlr patchpanel (to connect to mics) AND I want them normalled to my patchbay as dedicated hardware inserts while mixing...Obviously I can't have them both hooked up at the same time. Is there any danger, or anything I'm overlooking, if I get a balanced "Y" cable and connect BOTH the patch bay and my xlr patch panel to the 500 series inputs? Will the 48v phantom hurt my interface outputs? Is there an easier way?
I'd rather not wire the xlr patches to my patchbay... any other solutions? Some type of transformer isolated splitter maybe?

You wouldn't have to do a transformer splitter, but you could buy splitters and solder a 20uf or 100uf cap on the 48v line. It's single ended so just one wire needs to be coupled.
