Hi everyone, I've just bought a wonderful 5.1 system based on 5x 8320 + 1x 7350, but I have a couple of doubts (and 3 newbie questions):
1. When I set OSX (Utility Audio) to 5.1, I can see/use all speakers and woofer. Otherwise, when I set Utility Audio to Stereo, I can see/use only 2 speakers (that's obvious because Stereo has 2 channels only). But I'd like to add the subwoofer to the stereo setup (simply to compensate the lack of bass of the 8320s). Now, since all my 6 channels go from the audio-card to the woofer (and then from the woofer to the 5 speakers), do you confirm that, even in a simple 2-channel stereo setup, the woofer works under-the-hood to compensate automatically the lack of bass of the speakers? In other words, I wonder if physically passing through the woofer ALWAYS adds woofer's bass, even when I work in Audition creating a simple 2-channels stereo project (without woofer specification)?
2. GLM2 set the default crossover between woofer/speakers at 85Hz. Since my tiny studio is 6 mq (and the distance between me and the speakers is 90 cm), do you recommend 85Hz or less (75Hz or 65Hz)?
3. Which is the best channels order? 1. Front-L, 2. Front-C, 3. Front-R, 4. Rear-R, 5. Rear-L, 6. Sub. Or another order? Or it's not-relevant?
Thanks really a lot for your kind help.

Yes the 7350 will be making sound all the time. However, I'd recommend that you make two separate setups in the Genelec GLM software, for the stereo and 5.1. That way they are just one click away. The optimal subwoofer level for 5.1 and 2.1 are most likely a bit different, by default the GLM calibrates itself for 2.1.
The default 85hz is usually a good option for the speakers, but with GLM you can compare all options, and see what's the best option for your room. For example, it is possible that your speaker location gives you a null in, say, 85hz, but the sub location doesn't. Then you could optimize the situation so that the crossover is a bit higher and sub does most of the work at 85hz. 8320 is a small speaker so the lowest possible crossovers in the GLM will not be optimal for them.

Yes the 7350 will be making sound all the time... Just to be sure... let's say I create a 5.1 project in Audition, and in the Woofer-track/channel I put ONLY LFE stuff, and nothing else. Now, theoretically if a speaker-track/channel sounds, I should hear nothing from the Woofer (it would be right if audio cables went one-by-one from audio-card directly to speakers and woofer, separately).
BUT (!) since my audio-card cables arrive to the speakers passing physically through the Woofer, from the Woofer I should hear NOT only LFE stuff, but ALSO bass frequencies from all other speakers-channels. If I correctly understand, it should work simply creating a 5.1 Group in GLM (even without calibration). Nothing else required.
Is all that right??? If so, even keeping 5.1 Group active in GLM, once I create a new Stereo project in Audition with just L+R channels (or even simply see a Movie with Utility Audio set on Stereo) the "invisible" Woofer should still sound the bass frequencies of the 2 speakers/channels. I hope I understood everything well... Do you confirm?
Just another thing: when I set a 5.1 Group in GLM (or 2.1 for "reinforced" stereo) I should be able to "store" that setup/Group directly into the speakers. So GLM should handle the crossover between speakers and woofer even without opening the software, right?
Thanks a lot. P.S. I'd recommend that you make two separate setups in the Genelec GLM software, for the stereo and 5.1. Of course. Thanks a lot for this advice.
