The mic-pres apparently consisted of a Lundahl transformer feeding a 5534 op amp rather than some fancy pants discrete op amp.

The mic-pres apparently consisted of a Lundahl transformer feeding a 5534 op amp rather than some fancy pants discrete op amp. Those lowly 5534s are seemingly in everything made during that time period. It's kind of nuts when you think about how much we obsess over discrete opamps these days.

I’ve worked on the one that got flooded out in Hurricane Sandy.
It was uh.... interesting when it worked 😳
Mic pres were ok. Eq’s were awesome. Routing was terrible, but I’m used to ssl so not sure If that’s a fair comparison. Assistant was terrible hahah

It’s Rupert!
I guess SSL really came on about the time these did and that was that. It does seem there is a small but vocal group that thinks these are the best sounding consoles ever.
I’m just a hobbyist. I wish I’d got the opportunity to be in a room that had one of these or a Flickinger or a Quad 8 or ...
I don’t think my little Soundcraft into Adat was quite the same.
I’d also just like to remember what the pro studios I was in briefly had. Not sure ai was ever in the presence of a Neve. It was mostly second tier stuff. I think. Reaction in Toronto might’ve been different. I’m guessing SSL but? Anywho, I digress muchly. I do remember Reaction having a bunch of theRed Focusrite outboard. Was that Rupert?
Cheers, Geoff

Watched it many times. My love for the Focusrite sound has been contained by 2 ƒ220s, 2 ƒ428 Mark 1s and a pair of ƒ Red 6 Preamp/EQs.
The Red 6 is by far my favorite all-round preamp. And I have a few dozen to choose from

Are there different iterations of the Red 6?

Are there different iterations of the Red 6? Mine are transformer balanced i/o but I've heard they made versions with a transformerless input like they did with the Red 3

Yep, that's what it looks like.
And of course they just can't leave well enough alone, they have to "enhance" it by adding gratuitous noise and distortion "features" to make it more "analog".
And I'm a bit wary of their "TMT technology". It sounds great in theory, on paper, but if I had channels on my console that sounded noticably different from other channels I'd probably want to have the broken (out of spec) ones fixed.
It strikes me as being just another excuse for why digital emulations just aren't up to the quality of analog originals.

I thought I posted a song or two some months back? I'm talking about the Focusrite channel software you are panning based on "specs" I'm not sure anyone has widely used or heard it yet.

Cant find the MP3s I had and the WAVs are too big. Hang on, I'll get 'em done. Found the MP3s. They're still too large for this site's 2MB limit on attachments. I'll have to post on another site and post links here. Come to think of it, I believe that's what I had to do before.
At least then I'll be able to do WAVs.
