580/600/650 do require a good amp because they are 300ohms. The difference isn't subtle.
Would I notice much of a sonic difference between the headphone outs of a Apogee Symphony mk1 or a dedicated headphone amp with a HD600 ?

I have the Massdrop HD6XXs. They're supposed to be identical to the Sennheiser HD650s & wanted to know if anyone has compared. Also, still have my 580s from about 15 years ago & still sound good.

The cable or the plug adaptor that comes with the 600 is a real POS. The $15 factory replacement cable with the 1/4" plug for the 650 makes the 600s sound better than the 650s to me.

Thanks Bob, I had read that and it is ordered, and I'd also read a few places about the foam mod which was a noticeable difference also.

I think Jonathan Little recommends the Cardas replacement for the 600's. I'd like to give that try some time.

ANY homebrew cable would be better!
