My go to has always been my M149 but I just recently started using my Royer SF12 stereo ribbon mic. It stays on over heads when not on my baby grand but it never wowed me until now. This is thru an original Great river white face stereo mic pre with a touch of Elysia expressor on the way in. mixed with a uad la2a gray, touch of H delay and H verb and a sniff of the glue on the 2 bus. soundcloud.com/mcblive/improv-in-c

Only have my phone, but seems like it sounds really great. What’s that KM84 on these days?

Very earthy, very real. Love it! Also sounds a bit like the Samar mics by markfouxman to a degree. The way the harmonics talk I mean

I like the SF12 a lot. Haven't had access to one in years now, but I used to love that thing when I did.

You know I keep wondering what those Beesneez Ball adaptors and a KM84 would sound like on a nice acoustic🤔

I purchased a Royer SF12 mic new when they were first released... Put it 6 feet in front of a kit, and was blown away, it was the first time I heard the drums in my control room sound exactly the way they sounded while standing in front of them in the studio room. Amazing mic. Shortly after that, I started using the SF12 as a overhead, and captures the entire kit beautifully. As I like my overhead mic to be the main picture of the kit, and blend Kick, Snare, Toms ad or room to taste.
So I purchased another for stereo room, And then another for Acoustic guitar, and this has been my setup for the last 1o years give or take. Works amazingly well for singer songwriters with the SF12 on Acoustic, and something else on vocal.
Been longing for the tube version, but its a bit of $$$. Someday.

I’ll say this Paul you never go in half assed! It’s go big or go home!
