No? Don't you just need to flip the wires on the back diaphragm? there's only one wire on the back diaphragm, its a shared backplate so there's no other wire to flip. it involves adding some components to the mic circuitry beneath the headbasket, unfortunately. the back diaphragm signal has to be inverted. It 'is' possible to design a mic with all of that componentry located up in the detachable headbasket if you are designing a new mic from scratch, and its certainly been done in the past as well as in newer designs (BLUE bottle, Luke Audio, etc); but not done to a traditional 47, sadly. I 'do' think it would be cool to make a 'U478' with a 3 way switch and the added circuitry. It's been a thought rattling around in my brain for some time. lol To get figure you need to charge the rear diaphragm to double the potential of the other polarized element in the capsule. In the case of the 47/48 that is the backplate. In a 414E tho, the backplate is at 0 and the front and back are 60 and -60 respectively. You don't invert the signal, it is a byproduct of the polarization configuration.... The reason to need the U48 internal is we need to change the capsule polarization from 63V (U47) to 52.5/105 (U48). The U47 design doesn't have the rear polarizing circuitry. Omni is achieved when the rear is put to the same potential as the front sometimes with a coupling cap. In the 47 design, the 2 diaphragms are physically connected when you throw the switch.

Annnddd...back to the Heiserman 47 I wondered how long that would take That being said it is nice to see the Heiserman name at the top for awhile!

I don’t mind going off topic...but an entire page on Shatner was a bit much.

So John, I was wondering...would it be possible to hear an A/B against the Chandler TG? I believe you have both.
I know these are totally different mics, but I am curious.

How did it get so quiet in here?? You can hear a pin drop! I guess everyone's just patiently waiting for their H47T's??

Be interested in hearing a demo in Nashville sometime. Will you be at NAMM or have one at NAMM?

I really want to hear one next to a FleA 47, which is pretty close in pricing and a mic I know fairly well.

Yeah, their capsule sounds amazing. Haven't tried the Flea 47 yet though. Chris

Well, John has a Heisermann and I have a Flea. It sounds like its time for a Nashville shoot out.

Cue "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly" Theme song, as background music for this shootout! Chris

My feeling is they will both have different things going for them and it will be more about individual preference, but at 3k I would want to see how it is next to a mic I know I would also be looking at in that price range. My gut tells me the Heiserman mics are going to piss a lot of people off, because they are going to sound as good as some 4K+ mics and be a little cheaper. That’s just based on hearing clips of their first two offerings. I say that knowing my FleA 49 hasn’t left its mic stand since I purchased it and I’m trying to buy a second one.

My guess is the H47 with the k47 might sound a little more modern than the Flea.

I thought about getting one in to see how it compares to my custom 47 build, which I’m guessing sounds close to a Flea (Theirsch M7, EF12, Flea transformer). I think I have 2200 into that mic. I just can’t convince myself that it’s going to be drastically better than what I’ve got, enough so to warrant the extra cash. Different, maybe. I’ve been keeping an eye out for a used Neumann K49 to stick in this.
Sweet mic, though! If I didn’t already have what I have, I’d be on this.

I'd be interested in that comparison as well, though I have never tried a Flea 47.
Also still interested in hearing the other capsule. I preordered with the K47 style, but I am interested in the M7, too.
