I would venture a guess that it’s impossible for TPL to change the sound of the limiter. It’s just engaging it a little more often, isn’t it?
Do you use the button in FabFilter that lets you listen to the delta? That is pretty cool.

Does anybody know if there's any point to oversampling on the limiter if you have TPL switched on? Yes. "If True Peak Limiting is enabled, FabFilter Pro-L 2 ensures that the true peaks in the output will not exceed the ceiling level set by the Output Level parameter in the bottom bar. However, if oversampling is off, more inter-sample peaks will be generated so the limiter has to do more work to keep them under the output level ceiling. Turning oversampling on (e.g. with the 4x option) will reduce the inter-sample peaks which allows the limiter to increase the overall output level and apparent loudness. Ya I think that was my point the level shows you the true peak and my understanding is it doesn’t allow the real signal above that threshold? The Levels plugin is strictly a meter and does no audio processing whatsoever, except for utility buttons that let you listen to the low frecuencies only, etc. I use Fabfilter L2, with TP engaged. I don't fool around much with the settings and have my ceiling at 0.3. Sometimes I wonder if I should switch it off altogether. One of the best mastering engineers in Europe -that I worked with- was using Fabfilter with the default preset. Didn't look at the TP or oversampling though.

At the very least: Room (Bricasti Studio B Close), Snare plate (varies), Vocal plate (Bricasti Sunset Chamber), Instrument reverb (varies), Spring reverb (Sansui RA500) and Slapback (Echoboy).
I'm interested in knowing about any of your go-to snare reverbs for a "natural" sound (rock, folk, Americana).

How much do you guys typically pay for drum tracks/sessions? Per song, per hour? ..for the player to show up and play, or for a remote session? Both cases would be useful info for me!

In my case, I’m lucky to work with a very talented string player that arranges on the spot. I direct him a little bit and we usually arrive very quickly to the finished track.
If it was a remote track I suppose I’d need one revision or two. I think it all comes down to finding the right players I guess.
I also have a horn player that creates full horn section arrangements in his head while he lays down his track. That is a sight to behold!

Retro 2A3 and A-Designs EM-PEQ pair here. Both amazing! I currently have the 2A3 dedicated to kick and snare and EM-PEQ to drum buss. 2A3 is amazing on the stereo buss for an acoustic production. I really need to try them on more sources! How’s the high end on the peq? Does it sound like a solid state Pultec or is it it’s own thing? I hear great things about the low end on it, but not many people talk about the highs. It does sound Pultec-y to me, but I’m no expert. It sounds great, I doubt that anyone would be disappointed with this.

The heart of my studio is RME FF802, augmented with a Focusrite October Clarett. I use both sets of I/O interchangeably. If there is a difference in conversion it certainly isn’t impeding my recordings and mixes. Monitors are hooked to the RME. I had the chance to attend my mastering sessions at Metropolis and Abbey Road. I never thought “oh man, I wish I had used better converters for this mix!”

I've sent you a PM, I have an excellent player and we could work remotely. By the way, I wonder if there should be a section in the forum for this kind of projects? I can do quite a bit of remote work (I'll be doing a drum track for Wiz as well) and it might be interesting to know what the collective RGO braintrust has to offer. Maybe it could be a members-only section? Just thinking out loud here.

Oh please don’t make me crawl behind the desk to switch optical cables around!!!! 😅 Honestly, I just want to believe that it’s the cable and not just confirmation bias If it’s an easy switch then you could actually test the cables I guess. Just send out and in some stuff and record it.

I run my numbers recently. At the rate that I get paid by Spotify (through CD Baby) I would need 700 streams of a 12 track album to make $15.
I don’t think I’ve listened to ANY album 700 times throughout my whole life!

I had everything he ever made and sold all of it. the helios pres and eq's were cool but cleaner more modern sounding than the real thing.I ended up buying some original vintage modules the 670 was ok.I have the unfairchild now which is amazing and more flexible. also had the fully loaded Anamod tape ATS-1 sim box.moved on to other things mainly itb tape sims.easier recall,more flexible and automation etc. Wow the UnFairchild must be really something. Does it need a lot of maintenance/retubing?

The RME is a bit of a pain, but I solved this a while ago. Here's the info:
-First, ignore the "+4 dBU" setting because it's NOT +4 dBU at all. People have argued about this in the RME forums but the developers are very opinionated. -The "real" +4 dBU setting is the High Gain / Low Gain (depending on whether it's input or output). Once set to these settings, the interface is calibrated to -15 dBFS = 0VU.
When interfacing with external gear with Logic's I/O plugin I have a +3 (output) -3 (input) gain setting. This way, a -18 dBFS signal in Logic will be bumped to -15 dBFS on the way out, which RME makes it 0 VU. And the reverse for the input. A 0 VU signal will hit the converters and get a -15 dBFS input into Logic, which is then knocked down -3 dB so it becomes -18 dBFS.
I suppose I could have picked up -15 dBFS as my 0 VU and not do any offsets, but I decided to keep the -18 dBFS reference.
Some time later, I added a Focusrite Clarett Octopre. This interface is crazier, because it has different Input and Output voltages, and even the published specs are wrong. For that one to work correctly I have to set +4 Output and +3 Input in the I/O plugin.
