So, I got these in to check out. I've heard from a couple of guys ( nomatic ) that have very high praise for them. They have a very impressive client list on their webpage. Did I see that Vance Powell is using these now? They are a bit esoteric, I admit. Subs built in the rear. They are the HEAVIEST speaker I think I've handled, and they are passive! They are beasts. Very large image, but I'm used to the smaller image of the One15's. We will see how these pan out. I think they definitely need space, more than my One15's.

$5500 (plus shipping) new. This is a used pair I’ve got here for less than that.

At least that’s what the website lists them as costing. I assume it’s current?

Basically around the cost of a pair of ATC 20’s, right? And this is a dual sub system. I’ve had two different people say they thought these were better than ATC 25’s, best monitor they heard under $10k.

And they are a cool red color.

And they are a cool red color. Not a super fan of the red, but beggars can’t be choosers, I guess. They are not as gawdy as I thought they’d be. This is the first used pair I’ve ever seen, and came with an evaluation period/return window offered by the seller. That coupled with the price means I can live with red speakers, if I so choose.

Love the color! How big are they? Do let us know how you like them.

Not really a huge fan of the ring radiator, but I really have wanted to hear these things, a compact full range with no DSP!!! Would really like to know what 6.5 and sub driver he’s using!

Heard them at one of Vance’s parties. Thought they sounded good. Couldn’t really make any judgements.

High dollar esoteric stuff makes me nervous these days. That’s exactly on my mind as I demo. Maybe these are the greatest monitors ever, but if no one knows about them, what’s my resale going to look like if I have to liquidate? I did get a good discount on them by buying used, but there’s a catch. There are some scratches on the bottom of one and side of the other. I can’t see them, so it really doesn’t bother me. BUT, they had a little mishap during shipping, and one speaker has acquired some more “character”, along with the amp. Waiting to see what Reverb shipping insurance comes back with. Could end up sweetening the deal. Or I ship them back on someone else’s dime and get a full reimbursement.

Haven’t logged a lot of time yet (busy day), but my gut reaction is that it’s harder to hear compression setting changes on these than the One15’s. Granted the 15’s are super fast little ninja speakers and the Atomics are Goliath’s in comparison. But the low end on these Atomics is fantastic. Running Sonarworks is a must, because there is no sub volume setting and it’s just too much for my room. I think Norman told me there is an internal trim, but that seems annoying. I suppose it’s a set it and forget it thing. I can see these things making killer tracking speakers. Hard to tell what’s what yet. Switching between the sets is a huge PIA. They both need different spots, the 15’s closer, the Atomics further apart. Did I mention these were HEAVY? Like over 70lbs a piece. I’m a fit dude, but even so, it’s not fun to move them around.

Looks to me like a Dayton subwoofer. It maybe a custom job. I have an almost identical 10" at home. I think Barefoot gets custom subwoofers from dayton as well.

There are trims for the subwoofer on the back of my power amp for the SixTens that really lets you dial the subs in. Makes a big difference.

Yeah but you really can’t tell from looking at the cone.

Yeah but you really can’t tell from looking at the cone. I agree not 100%. We don't know what basket or motor is used(probably custom). But the cone/dustcap and even the way its glued is just like the RSS series.

I own a pair. As I understand it, the crossover is at 120hz and the knobs add more volume to the mid and tweeter relative to the subs. So with them all the way down, it’s just subs. You turn them up until the mids and tweeters are balanced in your room relative to the subs. I was advised to start with the knobs at 12 or 1 o’clock and turn them up if it’s still too bassy. There’s also a forward and neutral switch. I believe I ended up with the switch set to neutral and the knobs set between 1 and 2 o’clock. I was coming from Amphion One18’s and much prefer the SixTens. Never tried the One15’s. We also have Ns10ms and Auratones at my spot. Wow, that’s interesting. How long have you had the Atomics? Which set of monitors do you spend the most time on when mixing? Also, how big is your room and how far apart are the Atomics from each other and from the listening position? This is helpful, man.

Also, do the fans in the amp bother you? They bother me. I don't like noisy gear in my room. Granted, they aren't super loud, but I hear them.

My control room is tiny. I have the monitors about 4 feet apart with a little bit of toe in. My control room is isn’t very deep, so i have the monitors a few inches off the wall. Norman said this is actually okay since you just hear the direct reflection of the bass so it acts like it’s sort of pseudo soffit mounted. If you PM me your email address, I can send some pictures. The fans on mine are pretty quiet. I’ve never been bothered by them. I have my power amp in a rack case under my console and I can’t say it’s bothered me. I don’t have a dedicated equipment room and my Mac and HDX card are both louder than the power amp. I know Norman has a silent version of his SSL power supply now, so I bet he could recommend some replacement fans if it’s bothering you. He’s extremely helpful and approachable, so I wouldn’t hesitate to reach out to him. I can PM you contact info if you haven’t already spoken with him. Attachments:
