My dad likes to say “it’s not for sale but everything has a price” Yeah it’s how when my dad was alive we had 5 cars and 3 boats with 2 legal drivers! Sounds like my dad! Barn full of cars, motorcycles, mopeds, and dirt bikes

wondering if anyone knows of a place i could hear samples of the al95 on e guitar Here is a sample. Nylon strings though. Recorded in my living room. The room (and the performer) - it is what it is.... Pair of matched AL 95's on Classical guitar. Blumlien, about a stretched-hand between the mics and the guitar. No EQ or any tinkering with the sound. soundcloud.com/musicmusic-11/merlin-joropowavSounds "clean" to my ears. Open and clean type of sound. Stereo imaging is pleasant. My guitar generally is "warm" in character and not bright. The mic placement (or the stereo config. could be different/better perhaps) - I'm experimenting on that but it sounds more open than other mid-range ribbon mics I've experienced. Should give an audio person good enough of an idea. thx sounds great.

Can you explain little more, please? Which is "more vintage, earthy and warmer tone"?

Can you explain little more, please? Which is "more vintage, earthy and warmer tone"? Less hyped. More emphasis on a fuller richer experience as opposed to an extended to infinity top end to 30Khz with the kind of detail that makes audiofiles swoon for days on end.

Here is matched pair of AL95 on Classical Guitar. I recorded new samples in a much better hall, giving these mics better justice. (Disregard my previous post - I deleted the link). Top 3 (should be the latest) uploads: Villa-Lobos, Albeniz, Lauro. (all same set up, tracks are only "normalized", no fancy-shmancy EQ, etc etc). Not a Blumlien set up this time but mid-spaced stereo recording. I wish I could get my hands on and test VL37s but ... don't have them. soundcloud.com/musicmusic-11

Samar is absolutely top of the class on ribbon mics. Wish I owned more than I do.

I'm starting to think about getting the AL95 for recording violin/fiddle. The best sound I've ever got was with a Beyerdynamic MC930. I always do some dynamic EQ to control bow scrape but having a ribbon might be a nice change and possibly smoother. Very tempting.

".... having a ribbon might be a nice change and possibly smoother..." AL95 does have those "extended" highs (what they call now a "modern ribbon mic sound" ), so in that sense its not going to dull out those mechanical noises you mentioned. I noticed, for myself, that the finger and nail noise is little more than what I'm used to and want from a ribbon mic. I think you'd be better off with a "traditional" ribbon. But..... having said that, just borrow ANY ribbon mic (or rent it) and try it out. You'll be pleasantly surprised....

I always do some dynamic EQ to control bow scrape but having a ribbon might be a nice change and possibly smoother. Very tempting. I have used one on violin several times in a concert setting. The player had preferred a Sennheiser wireless system in order to move around. I had a violin mount for it but the venue started giving us interference on the wireless, beyond our ability to adapt. I had bought the AL95 for guitar cabs but through it on a boom in the emergency. It sounded killer. It was very full and woody. The top was present but not screechy at all. It's an awesome sounding mic with the extended but VERY nice top.

OK, just had another event where I had to throw up the AL95 on violin again. She's picky but never has a bad word about the sound of this mic. It again was rich and woody on her $30K instrument and filled the room. She only wishes it was wireless - lol.
this is very cool.

I've got the $2K Samar and some $400 custom pre-Samar branded Samar, they're equally good.
