I have a Dbox, I have a Dangerous Source, and I like the Dbox better for tracking headphones, and the Source better for mixing, but lately I’ve been wondering if I can up my game for my DA monitoring duties. Still looking at a monitor upgrade as well.
I have had some crazy problems with the Source and sent it in for repair and I’m still having issues with it. Not sure if it’s the Powersupply or what, but it has a really weird noise on the headphone side and it just sounds dull, like something is wrong with it. The service center said they checked it over, replaced a couple parts, and couldn’t find anything wrong with it, I have never had any noise what so ever in my studio...ever, and I know for a fact it’s the Source. I’ve ruled out everything, but the cheap shitty Powersupply. Has anyone had any issues with their Dangerous source? It could very well just be the Powersupply, but I’m ready to try something else tbh. Does anyone have any issues or had any issues with their Dangerous Source? Thinking about the Dbox+

I sold my Source and got a used Hilo and never looked back.

Could it be an impedance thing? Some headphones are pretty low impedance and would be hard for some headphone outputs to drive properly.
If it was a power supply issue, you'd think that you'd have issues throughout the unit.
I'm really digging my Neumann KH310D's for monitors.

Also seriously looking into D-Box+! If anyone has had any experience with it'd be great to hear some feedback.

I’ve tried every pair of headphones I own and they all make the same weird noise. It’s an intermittent popping, like a scratching noise every 2-4 seconds. Weird and annoying. I have heard great things about the HiLo and I heard very little about the Dbox+ ,however I did hear from just one source that it is an upgrade with the circuitry and I can imagine it does sound better than the the original dbox just because it has the 2buss+ circuitry. I like the Bluetooth feature, some other nice features as well. I wish it had the convert converters though. It would be a top notch box with those converters. I think it would sound good enough though.

Is it on both headphone outputs? I remember one would act up on mine from time to time so I'd just use the other output. There was a thread on the other site where people would swap out the power supply with a Teradak linear supply, reporting the heavens opening and whatnot. I haven't tried it so I can't say. Now that Avocet 2's are finally starting to be in stock I've been thinking of switching over to that anyway so I can have sub control.

Both headphone outs are ganged together, and the noise is coming from both headphone outputs. The noise isn’t in the speaker source side. I’m thinking about doing a huge upgrade soon. Might even upgrade my converters/monitoring system + controller. I’m liking the features of the dbox+, but doing my research as I save up. I sent the Dangerous Source in for repair and they said they fixed the bad component and they couldn’t replicate my problem on the bench. The only thing they did different was use a different Powersupply. That might just be the culprit.

Plus the Bluetooth feature is a killer idea, works with iPhone and android. The Bluetooth sounds good too, it’s not your ordinary mono sounding satellite Sirius radio garbage quality. The clients can stream anything through your studio monitoring setup with their phones or iPads. You can even control the dbox+ system from an app on your phone. I think it’s a great and all, but I want top notch monitoring. The bells and whistles are cool, but I will be demoing one just to compare the quality to the old dbox and the source. I heard from that one source(person) that he noticed a better sounding monitoring experience by switching to the dbox+. I of course have to hear it with my own ears in my room to make any conclusions as to improvements. Dangerous does mention that the analog side is of 2 buss+ quality. So they did improve the analog side of the dbox+, however I don’t know if that is just the summing side only, or every analog component in the whole unit? But with my 2buss+ the dbox+ that gives me 24 channels of summing. Not really a feature I need. I just want top notch quality conversion with two sets of monitors.

I got the Source in a mid-project pinch as I needed a better aux setup than what I had as well as some sort of DA for computer sound while the converters are tied up with PT HDX. I did feel a change from my trusty old Coleman though it didn't really alter the end results so I decided to keep working with it. I always felt comfortable with Avocets in the past so I was just going to go that route again when it was time to upgrade, or perhaps the Grace m905. As vital as they are it's never fun spending money on monitor control, it'd be great from a wallet and real estate perspective if the Dbox+ delivers.

Seems like I keep hearing about Crane Song, Grace & Dangerous. But within Dangerous there are a couple or more choices (D-Box+, Source, Convert+/Monitor ST) where as with the other 2 it's always the Avocet(IIa) & m90(5).
