Yeah - I'm sure they are good. Like I said, I would have been interested, but it's a personal decision now. There are plenty of other mics out there. Also, the Modded CV4 I have is basically the same idea with a custom capsule. In fact, the original goal was to tune the capsule as closely to Jeff Steiger's Ela M 251 as possible. However, unlike them, Shannon actually heard the mic and we tweaked until it sounded amazing. What a novel concept.

I know absolutely 0 about capsule design, but I feel like the maker should hear the circuit that he's tweaking the capsule for.

no horse in this race however I can tell you as a manufacturer, we have spec'd more than two custom transformers from different winders. They send us a prototype, we listen and measure it, say we want more of x and less of y and they make another sample and it goes back and forth like that. This seems to me to be a very standard way of doing business and I would actually be shocked if a custom wind ever started with "send us a circuit and we'll tweak a transformer for it". I most certainly wouldnt be interested so much in a relationship that started like that. The fact that a supplier has not heard a final product really isnt a big deal, Im sure this is more the norm than the exception.

I'm not at all insinuating that it isn't a normal thing. Obviously, this is the way it's done. From what I had read about the mic - they're copy - I had no idea that was the case. I've heard the Blackspade UM25 and it sounded really good. I'm sure the Tim Campbell model sounds even better.
However, the message that Tim Campbell replied with was very short and terse. It was puzzling to me to say the least, considering their wording on the site. I don't know about the rest of you buyers out there - but with the verbage that they use - I was surprised that the maker of the capsule hadn't heard the mic. I guess I was naive.
I thought I was extremely respectful in that Gearslutz thread - I even apologized. I even removed my original post. But why am I at fault for asking a legitimate question?

I might just delete all my references to this whole debacle. They accused me of "intentionally trying to harm" their company and that's just not the truth. It's too bad - they could probably make a little money here.

dont mean to inspire continued debate or speculation on the topic, simply stating that in industry this is very commonplace stuff.

I did read the thread, but I admit it was a long time ago, and I haven't refreshed my memory. I just didn't remember it being all that ominous, especially towards the end when everything was explained. I'm not at all insinuating that it isn't a normal thing. Believe it or not, you're extremely lucky to have gotten any reply at all from Tim haha He's so busy that even many people who contact him to BUY from him directly don't get replies. AwTAC explained the whole custom manufacturing idea well. I doubt Tim has heard a Flea 12 in person, either.

Edited to say I'd put a real goofy emoticon after that sentence, and it didn't show up when posted. I want y'all to know when I'm saying something goofy. Pet Cemetery 47's and PC 251's are goofy. But you gotta hear 'em. : )
