The audioscape says sold out for those models, are they in stock often? I'm also in a rev a search. For the price point, I'm looking at the cla rev a from bla... I rhymed on purpose. It's priced well! Figured I'd chime in here since I just asked Chris about availability yesterday... Opto Comp and 76A back in stock next week! Followed by a release date for the V =D I own a 76A already and dudeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, let me tell you. I've owned basically any variant of the 1176 you can think of. For what *I* like and what I do, the 76A is the clear winner. Especially for the price, it simply can't be beat. Sounds closest to the OG unit I used to have access to years ago... compression action, tone, etc are basically identical from what I remember (and I knew the OG unit WELL...). Plus I love the fact the Chris takes the time to find NOS parts (same as UREI used back in the day) and uses them in these builds... he uses most accurate replica of the original UTC O-12 input transformer, the Cinemag CM-O12 (think that's the model). The 76A just works. It's fast af to dial in, sounds amazing and again, the price is ludicrous for what you're getting. He could be charging nearly double the price and IMO, it'd still be the one to get. My two cents!

Oh man, had to bump this thread.
A week ago, I got a current model LTL Chroma +. -- 1RU 2 Channel Chroma. I figured I'd use it as another mic pre, and buss processor. But I wanted to go ahead and fill the colour slots, so I opted for Implode (1176) and set it up for the classic DrPepper settings.
O......M......G.....
This thing spanks like nothing else I have. More Spanky than my Splices or traditional 1176's that I've used. Sweeter than my DynoMites, and just as aggressive. Different than the DComp but can get just as aggressive - maybe more...I haven't had the guts to push it harder. LOL
The API setting, with the Implodes driven fairly hard, with the mix blend at around 75% and nothing can touch it for overall wallop. And it's got tone for days. I've got the vintage filter on, and the air boost and sub boost. Freakin.....
I didn't expect this - and I was involved in designing this and the Silver Bullets. I have Chroma's. I have Mr. Focus's with Implode. This has the newer rev of Implode, and the latest Brad's latest power supply - HYPERMATTER for Chroma. I'm a strong believer in beefy power supplies. And I'm thinking maybe it's the power supply. Not sure. But if it is, I may have to reconsider my 500 gear. It's kicking serious ***. I haven't even bothered to switch over to Neve modest. LOL. Slacker.....

I'm completely re-thinking how I even think about the Chroma +. I'm going to straight up use this as a dual 1176. I'll have to buy another for mic pre duties. And another for saturation bus duties. Geez.... I don't normally get caught off guard this easy. Especially when I helped design the thing. Brad's implode plug in is SUPER impressive.... (I'm walking around the house muttering to myself......). ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Dr Bill, you and Brad make it very hard to save money! Have you tried the Smash comp in it?

Dr Bill, you and Brad make it very hard to save money! Have you tried the Smash comp in it? I know, I know. But if it makes you feel better, I had to pay for this one too!! BTW, they ARE on sale for a bit longer.... drBill - the enabler. heh heh ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I really am quite enamored with this thing right now. If you can deal with setting up your attack / release times up front, and just deal with input / output, drive, mix blend and EQ i/o on the front panel, this holds it's own with any 1176 out there IMO. It's definitely an 1176 no doubt, but with a huge dose of API (that's how I've been using it cause API seems more "right" with the 1176 than Neve - but I plan to try it there too). Lively, aggressive, more open than some 1176's - even when clamped down. Actually, control wise it's pushing towards where I'm headed - find my gear's sweet spot and leave it alone. (For mixing) So the internal Attack / Release is a feature for me. LOL Makes me not grab them. The other controls - drive and blend - give me enough control. Blend is soooooo important for me on an 1176. Plus, I still have and like and use the Splices. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) A very nice addition. Not yet. Right now I've got my SMASH comps in MrFocus modules. Not sure the Smash's will ever make it in. I like the way it gels with the implodes.

Already having a pair of UA 1176s.......I got 2 more of the IGS 576s and they sound great! Blue stripe. They tuck away into my 500 rack, but get the job done. Great tone.

It took 3 service techs and 7 years to get my MOHOG 76 working correctly, and being almost totally ignored by Brandon the whole time . . . but now it is my favorite on clean electric guitars and DI bass. Too bad he closed up shop, but it's clearly evident why!
