Here are video clips with audio examples of the PWM-501 compressor in use. First video is an overview of the features.

I have tracked and mixed a bunch with these and I have been shocked at how great they are. Did you hear how it handled the acoustic without clamping down and killing the track? Pretty sweet.

Yeah...that might be worth the entry price alone.

Tony, this is one of those things I gladly purchased. You could never DIY this, let alone at the price you can buy it for. The PWM design is NASA level stuff.
These compressors are what I think of as a distressor killer. They are more flexible and sound better, and cheaper then a distressor. The only negative is they are so flexible. But after spending a few mins learning the front panel you can dial stuff in pretty quick. If I'm in a hurry I usually put some opto compressor behind them and use these to tame what is being feed into the LA3A or LA2A.
John is right, the way these handle acoustic guitars are worth the price alone. BTW, these kill on bass guitar as well!

Question for 51x users,
How do link 2 PWM-501 together in a 51x rack? Are there switches inside? sorry for the novice question.

Make sure you unplug the unit first 8)

This is Rick Beato. He's produced some of my favorite records. Plus, his beard has a life of its own.

The FF/FB didn't do as much as i heard in the other vid? what i did take from the vid, is in addition to the pwm 501, i need the harrison eq, and those damn filters won't let me sleep at night! Dan is your Harrison filter kit done yet?

Yeah, some of it is a little more aggressive then I would go for but I do think its shows what others are realistically doing. Plus it shows how the compressor can easily handle whatever is thrown at it. Seriously its more flexible and better sounding then the distressor. Plus cheaper.
Rick has produced Shine Down and a lot of harder rock stuff. He also has done my favorite Needtobreathe records. Rick has done some really great records in a large range of genres.
Also, yeah the EQ is super cool.

IMO, better, Deehope. It doesn't get murky when you clamp down on a track like the Distressor does.
