Wonder if there will be preorders? I have a feeling this mic will be hard to get come May.

The U67 was Neumann's response to the C-37 killing U-47 sales.

Hmm... So there was more than the "VF-14 tube scarcity issue" going on. I'm not sure if/when Tonelux might put out their FET version. Chris

The two biggest enemies of vinyl are breath pops and sibilance. The C-37A was a revolution.

How will a Neumann U47 FET compare to a C37 tube/FET, in those regards? (The Neumann 87ai doesn't work as well on me BTW) Thanks, Chris

I agree with Bob O., in that it's better to go Commando-no vocal pop filter!

The U67 was Neumann's response to the C-37 killing U-47 sales. Talk about a great line of mics killed by a large company that could never make up its mind what they wanted to be in the audio business! I feel very fortunate to have gotten to use some great Sony mics and the Oxford!

I agree with Bob O., in that it's better to go Commando-no vocal pop filter! That just takes a lot more technique and cooperation from vocalists!

I don't recall seeing any in photos from that era, but I could be misled. It seems to me that they started showing up some time in the '60s.

I recall something of a crude pop filter being used by Jimmy Durante when he sang 'As Time Goes By' - but that was 1964, before I was born . . .. so just going on a picture I recall in my vague memory,.

Neumann made a windscreen we affectionately called a "bull-dick" in the '50s. They were expensive and looked like a basket covered with silk. I actually have a couple that came with the 1959 U67s I bought from a studio that went under around 1970.

Any photos Bob? Would love to see that. I still want a real Abbey Road windscreen, the one The Beatles used on their 47's and 67's. If I ever get to Abbey Road, I'll look into it.

Hi, Martin. :-) Hope you're well today. Are you talking about those all metal shields? I was of the impression (talking to mic tech David O. Brown of Los Angeles last Summer) that those metal shields don't protect a capsule from moisture, only plosives. I'd love to know if that always holds true or not. Perhaps it's more about placement than anything. I typically lean toward the all foam versions for a full on moisture guard. EDIT: Like you said... Photos would be helpful here. I think I am picturing something completely different from what has just been discussed. haha

I'm in agreement with Bob O., that those pop 'n foam thangs mess up the vocal midrange a bit. Chris

This one. There are a few very similar pop screens, (MXL, Peluso), but I believe the Abbey Road one are proprietary and their design makes for a better sound. Attachments:
