So the verdict on the KT-2A / EQP from those who have them (and have had experience with the originals / other clones) is that these are not just good "For the money" but they are actually worthwhile pieces of equipment? As in, you'd have no problem running a money vocal through them? The eqp does not sound like an original Pultec. The high end doesn't do the smooth Pultec sheen properly. Could be a useful tool, and doesn't damage your audio or anything, but not an original Pultec sound.

I see they are using a nice little VTX/OEP transformer in there. Some MC33079 opamps which aren't bad. Oh cool, I didn't know VTX was part of OEP I just assumed it was some cheap generic part. Yeah build quality on this one seems good.

But, but, but, it's Behringer! (Sorry, always has to be one). I just can't believe you used the B-word. :-O

As in, you'd have no problem running a money vocal through them? The EQP's? They are worthwhile. I'm not going to spend $7500 US on a pair of pulse technologies, which IMO are probably the only ones that get close to the originals. And I'm certainly not going to go after a pair of originals. The pultec sound is just not worth that much $$$$$ to me. There are other tools that work for me just as well for way less. So all that said, are the KT EQP's good? Absolutely. They work, and although not my first reach for EQ, they get used all the time. They are quite good at certain things, and worth having in the arsenal along with my Miad's, 550A's, LilPEQrs, the SBullet EQ's, LC's, D&R's, etc.. The 2a is not identical to a vintage 2a either, but it does "the thang" really well. Every vintage 2a acts different, so I don't even know how to set the bar. The incessant desire by so many current engineers to have their gear be "identical" to vintage gear because of a record it was once used on is ridiculous IMO. The tool works for the job at hand or it doesn't. There is no recreating vintage sounding records with the gear they used - even if you can find or re-create it. That's merely a single aspect of a very complex paradigm that existed decades ago. Looking for "identical" clones is a fools errand IMO. (Sorry, not meaning to insult anyone looking for "perfection" - whatever that is....)

Finally got my KT2A wired in and tried in on in parallel on vocals.
Its not bad. Nothing like the UREI ive used of course.
I think I've read on here about how little throw the Gain knob has on the Stam SA2A. This is similar. Can't go very far before its pegging the output. The compression is very transparent. Enough so that Im crushing the hell out of it and pegging the meter WAY beyond what I do with the CLA 2A plugin or the UREI one I've used.
But it does do the big Opto thing when crushed. I just have to ignore the GR meter and go with what it sounds like. Have to push it to get it there but it goes there. For 330 bucks. Im not mad at all. It'll be useful here and there. Im sure if I get around to it swapping tubes will help a lot.
Pretty cool for an off the shelf cheap LA2A comp. Look forward to buying another and probably modding both of them.

Yeah build quality on this one seems good. Not quite. OEP is now owned by carnhill. I am not sure if the OEP staff are still around. An ex OEP employee setup VTX to manufacture what I believe are identical to transformers.

Posting this as an FYI because some people were curious if the Midas racks were worthwhile or not. I haven't used them, nor do I know much about what helps or hurts a 500 rack. Just came across this 500 series manufacturer who has a list of "Do Not Buy" 500 racks. He lists the Midas L6 first, and also includes a sound sample of what is a bad problem. The Noisy 500 Racks with Switched Mode PSU

Should have seen that coming I guess.
Though I'd also suspect that if you didn't have a lot of heavy load gear you might be just fine.

The PS, how it reacts and how much noise is injected into the system has a lot to do with the gear the rack is hosting - not just the PS itself. That's all I'll say about it cause I'm not tech.....

Just a quick question about the comps.. Why have that big gaudy light on the front panel? Is it necessary? I mean, doesn't the meter light up when the units are on?

My L10 got here finally.
One down side to ordering from the UK...came with a European plug IEC. Not a huge deal but I'd guess all the other stuff would do the same so plan accordingly!
Unit looks nice though.

Unit looks nice though. Brittish IEC makes sense and the switching power supply should make it a non-issue regardless of location. I have one on order myself but Thomann seems to be giving the run around on when it will ship. First time ordering from them - but the price was too hard to pass up.

Just letting people know. Mine shipped pretty fast but took almost 4 weeks due to customs. Was worth it for the price I paid.

Racked up my L10. I like the blue really.
Things I didn't like: -torx screws, everything else I have uses small phillips so thats a bit annoying but not a huge thing. -the screws were VERY tight and hard to get out. It was also at times hard to line them back up with modules. I only put in my CAPI VP312s and the dBx560a in it. First slot was tricky to line up. -I noticed that the modules are ever so slightly taller than the unit itself. This is not that case with my Lindell.
I like that the power button is on the front. That is nice.
seeing it side by side with the Lindell which is fully extruded Aluminum you can see the difference. Will find out if it sounds different.
Also can I just say how freaking lame it is that so many modules for 500 series gear does include all the functions. I find it sad and annoying pins 7 and 9, which are used for insert sort of send and return are never utilized. What a shame. This renders the Aux in and out on the L10 useless unless the module has this function which almost none do. I find this sad, so many possibilities unexplored.

I've got the EQ's. I like them. They are sort of a utility EQ like an SSL or something (roughly) 4 useful bands, neutral sonic color.

The Noisy 500 Racks with Switched Mode PSUI have some bad news, "Mine does do that." I have two preamps in my Midas L6, CAPI VP312 and FiveFish NK72DI The Five Fish is perfectly quiet, likely because of the LM7812 voltage regulator in the power section. The VP312 has no voltage regulator, just some filter caps. When you crank the VP312 to maximum gain, and crank up your studio monitors (watch out for feedback and live mics), you CAN INDEED HEAR THE WOBBLY OSCILLATION sampled on the HRK page above. I've never noticed it in a project since I've had the L6, and at normal gain settings it's not audible. However I don't like the idea of that being there, being a mild perfectionist about my gear.
