Sounds really great on my Sony 7506. certainly helped a lot as those are not super nice in the upper range at all. But the low end was almost overwhelming. To the point where I think most would just assume its better because it feels way louder with the lower energy now. Maybe its just me.

With this on the low end was a bit too much though. Same for the 702s

I did, it has been extremely helpful in my space. Grab the demo, John, I'll mail you my calibrated mic that goes with it if you wanna try it out.

I tried out the demo trying to remix with my AKG headphones. Didn’t work out well.

The software takes in account the frequency response of 5the mic used for calibration. AFAIC Sonarworks changed my life. It is killer.

I have a feeling using it with the monitors would be an entirely different experience.

I’ve used Arc since version 1, but no longer so. Sonar works has been on my radar because it seems to have more tweakability. The problem with Arc is that you couldn’t turn off or dial down the correction very easily. You could create custom curves but if you wanted to only correct the mid and high bands and leave the subs or vice versa you couldn’t. Does anyone know if Sonarworks is the same?

And then there's Andrew Scheps, who says he mixes 100% in the box on Sony MDR-7506 without any sort of correction software.

It’s always fascinating to hear about other people’s methods. Clearly it’s working for him.

There's the cheap Behringer measurement microphone which I've heard is pretty decent. I bought their measurement microphone over a decade ago when I purchased the Behringer Ultracurve Pro DEQ2496 and it did the job well.

I just realized I replied to a post over a year ago and I have no earthly idea where this thread was heading. Sorry for any contextual confusion. The junior member thing went to my head, I'm thinking.

I picked up the Behringer calibration mic to use with Sonarworks. I found it used for $25. I think there is a calibration file you can download somewhere

If you can get your mix sounding smooth/not harsh on them then you're almost there. Need something additional for checking the lows/low mids

Does the software boost with eq for trying to fill up the nulls in the room? That's just silly.

I use Sonarworks at 100 in my studio. I have a couple of room modes at 60 and 110 and its been a great help.
I am planning to buy their mic just to get the absolute best I can out of it. At the moment I have used the DBX RTA M that I bought when ringing out my room during studio build. I found a calibration fiile which I load into Sonarworks but I’m not sure its right.
I have to say I am mixing much better first time and dont need to drive around the block with the car test since using this. Its even helping to get better bass tones when tracking DI for example cos I can hear the low end better from the get go.
The only caveat I see with this plugin is that you can forget to turn off when bouncing/summing your mix and you waste your time .... or maybe thats a caveat with me :-) I with there was a way to auto-disable when recording/bouncing. (The system wide solution does not work when summing)
Anyway, great product but you do need a week or so to get used to how your room sounds. Don’t expect to try this for 30 mins and make a decision.

Nothing special about the Sonarworks microphone its basically just a Behringer/DBX. I use the Audix TM1. But anything with a calibration file will work.
