Sounds lovely Dan! I used my DBPre last week with a humble 57 on a banjitar....it sounded AMAZING! I’ve been using it interchangeably with my DW Fearn preamps.

I’m so glad to hear that you’re using it a lot. After I sell off the rest of my current cases, my next version will have an external PSU.
I like using mine for vinyl record transfers to digital.

Man that’s beautiful! Do you still have preamps Dan, or did they all sell?

I sold a few, and have a few left. One on order right now.

Good mics sound good through almost any preamp. If you can make a 57 sound awesome, you have yourself a great preamp! I’m not noticing any noise with my internal PSU. Have you run any noise tests on internal vs. external PSU?

Keith, I have not prototyped an external supply yet. I did order some super fancy (expensive) potted and shielded power toroids from Don Audio. They were no quieter than the one in yours before adding the mumetal shield. It still required a second shield to make it hush.
My plan right now is to make a "universal" external PSU that can work for any of my designs. That will also give me more room in the chassis - perhaps I can even make room for four channels of preamps. The same PSU could them be used for my channel strip too.

It's mono, but it has so much dimension. Very 3D for a non-stereo source.

Hope to work on it over the holidays. This build would be so much easier on a PCB. Too many hookup wires, especially with the EQ section, for point-to-point and turret boards. It might take a while to figure this one out. Just tracked overdub vocals with it a few minutes ago. Not disappointed!

So is that basically an LA2A style comp with a similar preamp as your other model? What style EQ; Passive?

Yes. My preamp followed by an La2a-inspired compressor. The EQ is passive with Carnhill inductors.
The compressor and EQ circuits as “always in.” There is a line-in mode in case you don’t need to mic pre.

The release time looked fairly quick on the VU....
Adjustable?

Nope, not adjustable. Just the standard Kenetek T4B release, ala LA2A.

Nope, not adjustable. Just the standard Kenetek T4B release, ala LA2A. Thats interesting I have Kenetek in one of my LA2As, it doesn't seem to release like that.. The other LA2A I have, has three selectable att/release times (3 different opto cells) cool... it just seemed fast Cheers Wiz

Kenetik makes both a slow and fast model right?
