I am really happy with my Symphony MKII 16x16 and 2x6 SE. Adding the Apogee remote is also a nice touch for having the monitor control for speakers and headphones right at your finger tips. I have not noticed any latency difference between the SE and the 16x16 module but I am usually able to track at a 64 buffer since the only plugin I use during tracking is some reverb for the vocalist.

Hmm. Could you run one of these with a 16x16 analog in/out and a 2x6 SE in the same chassis? This is the setup I have. I started with the Symphony MKII 16x16 and a couple of months ago added the 2x6SE module. Sold my Dangerous Dbox and now monitor everything through the 2x6SE module. The summed feed from my 2Bus+ also returns to my DAW via the 2x6SE. After using the Lynx Aurora, Metric Halo ULN8, all of the black face Apollos, and other various interfaces, I am very satisfied. I have my Symphony racked in a dual bay Argosy rack that sits next to my recording desk and I never hear the fan run on my Symphony. Curious. What do you have in front of the 16's? Board, pres, which ones?

I have my Symphony racked in a dual bay Argosy rack that sits next to my recording desk and I never hear the fan run on my Symphony. Curious. What do you have in front of the 16's? Board, pres, which ones? All ins and outs on the 16x16 go to a switchcraft patchbay with various preamps I can patch in and then mixing is done through the Dangerous 2Bus+ and Silver Bullet with various other outboard patched in. It works really well for my needs. I also use an Avid S3, Dock, and Pro Tools. The preamps I use the most are a pair of Redd47s and a matched pair of Retro Powerstrips. The preamps for the Silver Bullet are also available via my patchbay and are very good.

How does that digital IO work on the 2x6SE? Do they just mirror outputs? Can the AES and Optical output be different plus the 6 analog ones?

Might end up going the Symphony route. 2x6 + 16x16 with an HD card in it. Then just get a second one with dual 16x16s later.

Dragging up an old thread to ask a question:
I have two BF Apollo 8's and I use their 16 outputs to sum through an RND 5060. I am looking at adding a better Ad/DA and I am considering the Symphony 2x6SE.
I was also looking at the Cranesong HEDD Quantum and the Dangerous AD+ and COnvert 2 but those solutions go waaay outside the budget right now.
SO to my question: I would like to set up the Symphony in standalone mode and connect a) the mix output from the RND 5060 to the Symphony A/D in and route the digital signal to the spdif out and connect that to the SPDIF in on the Apollo and record the converted signal into the session as the "bounce". b) route the converted digital mix back out through the Symphony D/A into one of the external monitor inputs on the RND 5060 so I can hear what I am getting post-converter
Step B would also help if I am doing an ITB mix to use the best D/A
If I was able to get an aggregate device going on my mac I would even use another pair of the 6 analog outputs to send out the reference track to another of the external monitor source inputs that the RND 5060 has so I could switch between my mix and reference at the touch of a button. I used to do that with a pair of the Apollo's outs but decided I was better off using them for summing. I did enjoy having the reference there though so it would be a nice workflow enhancer
And finally ... for those of you who have lived with the 2 x 6 SE for a while ... are you still happy?

Thanks, for any input. Sorry, I can only answer your last question. I have the Symphony MKII with the 16x16 and added the 2x6SE about a year ago and I am totally happy. I print back to the 2 analog ins on the SE and the six analog outs feed two sets of monitors and an IEM system. My Bricasti stays permanently connected to the AES I/O and I feed a separate headphone amp with the Spdif out. I only wish the 2x6 would have been a 2x8.

Maybe I misunderstood but if you have to buy a mkii chassis and the 2x6 se card isn’t that more than the Convert AD+ ?

Yeah, the Cranesong Hedd Quantum looks like a great unit that has AD and DA in a 1U unit with wonderful clock specs and some interesting processing options for the mix post 5060 ... but there are none around, I have pinged a few EU suppliers and they have no idea when they might appear. Getting the Symphony however also gets me a chasis I could add a 16 x 16 to later if I wanted to move away from the Apollos down the line I won’t be taking this decision quickly ... need to figure out all angles

I have the 16x16 I/O card all running through a Switchcraft 9625 patch bay with other outboard. I do all my monitoring off of the 6 analog outs on the 2x6se card. Four of the outs go directly to speakers and the other two go to a Sennheiser IEM system. I use the Apogee Remote to control the Symphony for switching speaker and headphone switching and other monitor control duties.
