Hey,
I have an egnator tweaker 1 12 combo open back with the stock celestrian 12 inch speaker. It has louvers on top for amp ventilation.
I have this set up about a foot in front of a floor to ceiling bass trap in the back of my room and raised up on a small table, so it doesn't sing out the back as much as usual. It has the typical b,m,t tone controls.
Anyway, I always find it kind throaty, not in a really bad way, so I play with the tone controls to lower mid etc..
But I have wondered, if I were to close the back in, I think that would make the sound (mids and bass) more tight : right ? It has a small panel that counters sink into the back so it would be pretty easy to make a replacement.
Try and see ?

If the box volume isn't large enough to support the air-spring effect, then you'll lose low end as well, making it seem even more tight. I'd try it and see. Could be cool to make it easily removable so you can different tones.

Closing the back will deny the tubes the ventilation they need.

Yeah, it's probably easier to put a 12" speaker in a box and jack it into the amp head.

I had my old tech put a speaker out on my Silvertone 1482. The open back, fiberboard cabinet has a sound. Or I can use it with my closed 2x12 for a different vibe.
