Ok, on monday I finished and tested my M49 mic. No burning or smelling on the fist power up. I calibrate voltage to 116V and heater to 6.1V. Then the bias cca 1.5V, choose 2k cathode resistor. Cca 0.7mA anode current.
IMHO even with chinese WGTCenter capsule mic sounds very decent and plesant to my ears.
I compared M49 to CVM563 with original M7 capsule. Both mic were in the same league. M49 has slightly softer (better) sounding basses. I like the colorfull sound mic produced without feedback capacitor. With feedbaack the mic sounded more "boring, flatter"...
Next step is upgrading capsule to Thiersch or Maiku. Can recomend Oliver Archuts M49 conversion schematic (use original values of hi ohm resistors)!!

If you're looking at capsules, take a look at the Beesneez K7. Klaus gave it high marks, but even more so, I've used it and it is a very smooth capsule in the K47/M7 family. I think it sounds better than my Thiersch M7 red.

If you could combine the 2 I would be a happy camper.

Hi Eric, I’ve heard great things about your capsules. Is your m49 capsule a k47 type or M7 type or do you make both?

Hey, My hk47 is my take on a k47 type. I also have some m7 available short supply though. I have a money back guarantee. If you more interested in an m7 let me know they aren't available on the website,

Stormymondays, this thread's gotten so long, did you choose a mic yet?

The less expensive AK-47 was my favorite of the bunch when I tested them over at Dale Audio a few years ago.

Stormymondays, this thread's gotten so long, did you choose a mic yet? Saving up for a U67 reissue! And maybe an AEA R44 down the line...

You can't go wrong with that! You can do anything with a U67. It's a no compromise mic, just great on most everything. The few files I've heard of the reissue sounded great.
If that's your choice but you fall short of cash or can't wait any longer, I'd suggest the Chandler REDD. It's very similar, and most definitely a world class flagship kind of mic.

The REDD very similar to the U67? No, not here. Very different.

Ward, with all the chat here, regarding new & old classics...
How highly do you still rate the TLM 102, on vocals? Thanks, Chris
