Hey there just looking at Matts New release of the SR-3 ribbon mic. I own both the SR2 and the sR1.
I found the SR2 very condenser like with the neo magnets and the SR1 very bottom heavy not so sweet top end with the alnico magnets. Looking for more of a RCA 44 sound without the RCA price?
Anyone had a chance to demo the SR3 yet? It is early days though.

We used the proto SR-3 on some electric guitars at my friend Colt Capperrune's place a while back. Stuff we tracked for another Platinum promo video. The SR-3 is incredible. Stagering tone for days. See what I did there?

I got the SR-2N pair. Thinking of reasons not to buy the SR-3 now!

I bought an SR-3 for a "front-of-kick" mic, and it has a lot of low-end goodness. Haven't tried it on guitar cabs, but I'm sure it will sound great.

Hey just wondering if there is any internal difference between the original SR2N and the version 2 of the SR2N? Probably should start it owns thread but I thought I would tack it on here.

As far as I know Matt has improved the mic at least twice. More output, less rumble, more stability of the ribbon tension.

I had an SR3 for demo for a while. It's awesome. It's by far the highest output passive ribbon I've ever tried. Really thick sound without being muddy. Sounds killer on vocals or in front of a drum kit. Unfortunately I didn't have the spare cash to get it but I did get a SR2N.
Here's some Stager footage shot in my studio:

What am I missing with the SR-3? Worth getting rid of the 2N for the 3?

I’ve got an SR2N. What am I missing with the SR-3? Worth getting rid of the 2N for the 3? Don't have the SR2N, so I can't comment on the difference other than what Stager says on their website. I've used mine mostly on vocals, acoustic guitars and guitar cabs. It's got a nice low end and smooth highs and overall is well balanced. My biggest issue with it is it's off axis response - it has a bit more bite than I'd like in situations where I'm counting on the bleed working in my favor.

If you find you're needing more output then SR3 might be a worthwhile upgrade. I wasn't able to compare them side by side unfortunately. That video shoot was only one day and I didn't have the SR3 and SR2N at the same time. I would send Matt a message. He probably has some side by side comparisons. I think the SR3 has a longer ribbon and probably a different transformer than the SR2N.

Absolutely man! This video was all Stager mics and Coil preamps (minus the 57 on the snare top I think).
I think the Coil guys did the mix. It was a lot of fun having them in.
