Which host program do you feel is the best and have there been any issues inserting it into your DAW?

Pro Tools here. No problems. Does it insert into PT as Omnisphere? or as the host you use with Omnisphere?

Not sure what you mean. But in PT, you open an instrument track, and insert Omnisphere on the instrument track. Simple & sweet.

They tell you you'll need a VST 2.4 compatible host program, I'm not sure why they wouldn't just say any DAW will open it up as a plugin. By host I thought they meant like Kontakt or Reaktor player. I have some programs that will only open in Reaper if it's within Kontakt 4 or Reaktor 5 as the player.

I'm using Cubase 5. Not sure what the problem is, any DAW should work fine. Don't you have one you use regularly?

I have some programs that will only open in Reaper if it's within Kontakt 4 or Reaktor 5 as the player. Hey Mobeach! Omnisphere will work perfectly in Reaper. It's a stand alone product that does not use the Kontakt player. Just pop it on a track and your good to go. The instruments that require Kontakt are made specifically for kontakt and there are a TON of them. Kontakt is the main sampler out there so people just make instruments for Kontakt and then sell them. If you need more than one sound out of Omnisphere it might be better to run two separate instances instead of using Omni multi timbrally. It will spread the load out on your cores more efficiently than just using one instance to generate two sounds. Hope this helps. Edit: VST 2.4 is the most popular VST format. Steinberg introduced VST3 which introduced sidechaining and some other stuff. Most daws don't support vst3 as far as I know, but Stienberg supports it. It's not necessary to have vst3 in Reaper.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I'm torn between Omnisphere and upgrading to Komplete 9 Ultimate, which has a ton of good programs.

K9 Ultimate has like 33 programs, some small, some big, some similar to Omnisphere etc.. but I think Omnisphere has more pristine hi-fi sounds and is only $79 more.

Komplete has some great synths. Absynth will kind of do Omnisphere stuff. Problem is Omnisphere can't do what Komplete does and vice versa . You need both!! They sound very different as well imo.

I have Absynth 4, Massive, FM8 etc.. Komplete 5 is kind of dated though I would definitely like to have Damage and Session Strings.. problem is I can't afford both, I also have to get a new PCIe interface since I'm having crappy luck with USB.

I really need to just bite the bullet and buy Omnisphere. It's just one of those things I've always wanted but never pulled the trigger. I already have lots of synths, but I'm not really a synth guy - I couldn't tell you an LFO from a UFO...but - I'd love to have something that has killer USEABLE moving pads that would really glue tracks down...

I watched this older demo at NAMM by Rudess and it really inspired me to get Omnisphere.

Buy it. Literally you can just use the presets without any programming. Watch the low end and low mids though, it's very thick in those areas which is a good problem to have imo. Also you might want to run it through whatever analogue you want before finalizing your sound. Lol I've heard whole commercials where it seems the composer just held down a key and let Omni do it's thing!!

I decided on this program, will be ordering very soon! I remember watching 24 with Kiefer Sutherland, the shows composer Sean Callery used the hell out of the same patches I was using in Native Instruments.

Have you checked out Zebra. As rich sounding as Omnisphere but just less sounds. www.u-he.com/cms/zebraI`ve been using it a bit more than Omni lately. There`s something to be said for not having 5000 sounds to surf through!!LOL

You can also control it with your iPad with the TR iPad app…Ultra cool!

The thing that attracts me to Omnisphere is the fact that it has ready to use patches...but like you, I don't want to have to sort through 10k of them. Does Zebra have plenty of presets?

I watched this older demo at NAMM by Rudess and it really inspired me to get Omnisphere. Honestly, I wouldn't use a single sound in that video. I just feel like I'm paying for 10k sounds and will use 20 of them.
