Anyone have a Chimera or Sa3a? If so, would you run a vocal thru it and we'll compare to a UREI 3a and UA reissue?

Well I just ordered some SA3A circuit boards and hopefully a front panel...wish me luck :-D
I wonder if it would even make sense to buy something like an RNLA or VLA II after owning a stereo unit like this and other high end DIY units when the same money could be put into, say, a dual LA2A or dual 1176 build. I think those two might still get used, actually, I used to own them and I am considering getting them back. But I wonder if the Serpent, mnats, Drip, etc, stuff will just totally stomp them.

Congrats monkee, the best part about DIY is you gain the knowledge and ability to test and swap in better and better components, until u get exactly what u want, and do indeed "stomp" off the shelve stuff, u gotta love it. |

I'm pretty confident in Serpent's designs so I think I am mostly going to stick to their component suggestions. The T4Bs and transformers might or might not require some guesswork substitution, not sure yet. I am going to build an SB4000 also. I'm sure once I hear them, I'll know what to do about the ART and FMR stuff I'm on the fence about. I'm really diving into compression, right now, after a long "uncompressed" phase. |
