So what your saying is we’re all wrong and it’s Frued going “HA HA” in a voice likes from the Simpsons😁 Nah I'm pretty sure that's what you said I wonder to what extent can we shift the focus in what we're hearing (which is what Diana Deutsch was doing) Like mr svart was hearing both names. Like those songs that start on the off-beat One implication being, the amount of time it takes before you realise your mix actually doesn't sound like Kacey Musgraves (don't you just hate it when that happens)

Has anyone asked the Brahmins of AE what they hear? Al Schmidt, Bob Clearmountain, etc.? Ha.
I'm fairly certain the original recording was "laurel." Yanny is the artifact. I can't imagine getting 'laurel' from someone saying 'yanny.' Yet I've heard both, and Yanny more on bass light playback.
Is there any background on how that clip was created?

I prefer Laurel. There's way too much auto-tune on Yanny.

If I pop on my phones and crank them up, I can hear the laurel now. Pretty wild.

The same file with everything above 4.5khz filtered out "takes away the entire perception of hearing the word 'yanny' and all you get is the word 'laurel'. If you lose the high frequencies, the illusion goes away."

I hear Yanny no matter how much I've tried to hear Laurel. Is this the new test for choosing mastering engineers?

The first time going towards the right I heard Yanni, though the second time heard the same as ward, Eejit. Glad I'm not alone on this, I was thinking I was hearing things, LOL.

So it's like an eq spectrum cut, with two words set at the same time, and the lower frequencies saved for laurel, and the higher frequencies for yanny?
_____ _____ / X \ Laurel Yanny

Holy shit. I just listened on my earbuds at work and it's clearly YANNY now, even at normal speed. I listen on my phone and it's clearly LAUREL. If I concentrate I can hear either one. This is cool. The YANNY I hear is higher pitched than the LAUREL I hear. Gotta be an overtone thing generated by the audio compression. I could hear them at the same time, too. It was an obvious Laurel on my monitors, with a weird "yanny" overtone. Pitch shifting up or down pushed it further in either direction.

Laurel, loud and clear on my iPhone speaker, which is all I can listen to till Monday. It’s hard to believe that anything else could be heard instead!
