I don't think so hasbeen. Man, what are you waiting for? Logic X has been around like... 4 or 5 years now. Has it been that long? It seems like just yesterday I said "Maybe I will upgrade tomorrow"

Pro Tools is a digital audio kit that can be configured/assembled in any way you want. The downside to that flexibility is that you first need to build templates. It is much deeper than what's obvious. I've tried most everything at one time or another but invariably hit something I want to do that the others can't especially in the way of routing. I quit MIDI in the '90s. The biggest problem I have with Pro Tools -I have 11 with two RME interfaces - is that it doesn't play nice with 3rd party audio interfaces. So, if I want to change my buffer size, I have to shut down my project, change my buffer size and open up the project again. It also sometimes just doesn't recognize the interface. So, multiple start up at times. So, unless I'm collaborating with another studio, I use Cubase. Otherwise, I don't see much difference in Cubase and Pro Tools. When you set up templates and learn the key commands you can fly through your editing, automating etc. Both great software.

I’m on an Apollo at home and never have to shut down or close tools to change buffer size. Are you on a Mac or PC?

^^This^^ ya never had that problem on my apollos either ? Maybe its the rme drivers ? My drivers are up to date. I'd love to solve this if anybody has any info. Here's RME's response which says it's PT's problem. RME's forum moderators are extremely curt. They do make a good product, but their view generally is that if there's a problem, it's the other guys fault.

I'm on the latest Pro Tools 2018 using a Symphony MKII 16x16 & 2x6SE and can change buffer size at will without needing to restart pro tools.

It depends entirely on the interface and drivers. I'm using a Mutec USB-2 interface with the latest 2018 and there is no need to close and reload the session. I think I needed to in 12 so this could be something they've improved. Their gradual upgrade policy seems to have put an end to needing to stay one version behind for reliability.

It depends entirely on the interface and drivers. And apparently the motherboard.

This post might be slightly off topic but kinna speaks to the thread. I've always found daw eq's more than usable for good result. Matter of fact, I use the Cubase filters and strip eq to shape a sound on every channel that wasn't recorded exactly the way I wanted. Then I might put on another vibey eq later if necessary. But I mostly just use daw and hardware eq's.

No, that's right on target cowboycoalminer. I was just about to ask if anyone's compared the Apple Eq's, (Pultec, Neve, and API style) to any other company's EQ's. I have all the Waves EQ's and prefer Logic's now.

I few weeks ago I watched a Youtube video where the Waves Pultec was shot out against Logic's Pultec. I thought the Waves was more aggressive sounding. Not sure if that's a bad or a good thing, but I'm not going out and buying the Waves.

I find the Waves Pultec too "thumpy". UAD's is good, but I don't like to waste the UAD DSP for something that subtle.

Having fun with Pyramix 11 stock plugs here. Occasionally I use a VST plug with it. I use Pro Tools at the studio too...and haven't sunk much into Plugs. Thankfully. though I have spent a few hundo on them easy. I only buy what I need.

BTW I used Logics VINTAGE VCA Compressor over the Hardware today. The Sidechain EQ worked as expected and it glued the mix together in a nice way. Subtel 0,5 to 2 db reduction.
Sounds good to me.

I use them all the time. The 1176 style and the DBX style ( I think # 3 and #4) sound great, as good as any of the Slate and UAD compressors, maybe even better.

Using the knee knob was the Magic to get it yaw droping close to my hardware. This thing is one of my surprises in 2018. Never used it before on mixbus. iconcollective.com/logic-pro-x-compressor-emulations/

Was using logic pultec today mixing. I don’t think it has ua’s presence but it does have a nice smoothness: enjoying the presets too. Thx for reminding me about the API !!
