Thanks Dustin! I've checked out (never heard) and adimred your work a few times before, and now browsed thru your builds once again. WOW! You should have your own separate thread here and present a build every week..

Consider the high current mods for the 12BH7 output stage. It does improve output drive by upping current to around 23 ma.
Change R17 to 680 ohms, R18 and R20 to 330 ohms, R 19 to 1 meg and C5 to 22 or 47 uf to extend the low end.

Except for the xformer replacement and perhaps other things, is this part of your ADL1000/1500 mods? BTW, love your status message!

That is part of it. I use Jensen's JT-11 input transformer and their special JT-10K61-1M output transformer, designed for the LA-2 output stage.

Yes, I've read your posts about changing to those Jensens, but knew nothing about the other mods you do. Very generous of you to share! I still haven't done more than testing mine, it's not even in the studio rack yet, but I thought it sounded pretty open and clean, so I believe this won't be the route for me. But it's interesting nevertheless. Thanks again!

unit7 I'm finally getting around to finishing mine up and wiring the sowter transformers in. Could you send a closer pic of the innards of yours just so I can make sure I have it right? Would be greatly appreciated! 😎

I'm not able to shoot a good pic so: I/P xf: Red - XLR cold (3) Blue - XLR hot (2) Green - between R5 and R6 Grey - ground White - NC
O/P xf: Red - negative side of big 10uf cap White - XLR hot Grey - XLR cold Yellow - R20
Just make sure you use the same xformers as I. And that Sowter haven't changed specs..

I'm actually working on a platform to make not only recreating the LA2A but also other wonderful pieces of legendary gear more accessible... ...I guess I should start a dedicated thread for it
