Tried the KM84 on male spoken word yesterday (me!) Jaw droppingly good. Best recorded vocal sound I have ever got. Bear in mind it is the most expensive/supposedly best mic I have ever owned, and I don't have much mic experience, but even still.
First take was full of plosives, but then remembered reading how sensitive it was to these, so for the next take I put a Rycote pop shield in front of it and spoke a few inches above the mic (pointed at my throat, on axis). Tiny bit of EQ, compression and reverb and have been flawed. You could probably do everything with this mic.

New unofficial RGO policy the KM84 sucks until we all own at least 2 good ones.

I have 1 1/2 good ones. Still not sure whether to just order one new KK84 capsule and hope it matches the more modern KK84 I already have, or just buy two and flip the old ones on Reverb or something. It's not that the old KK84 is bad, it's just that it's noticeably different from the newer one, which bugs my OCD...

Flip the older one if the new capsule matches the newer of yours great if not flip the other capsule. Since new capsules are parts it’s not like you can get a matched pair anyway l.

Just so I'm not constantly praising the KM84, I tried it yesterday on vocals for a melodic/classical singer and it didn't work for him. It seemed to accentuate all the wrong frequencies. I could still have made a record with it, mind you, but it was definitely the wrong mic.
In the end, the humble SM7B won the shootout, go figure!
