Did UA come out with an update to the SSL 4k Compressor? I know they came out with an update back when the mkII of the SSL Channel strip came out, but have they revised it again? The reason I ask is because I have another price in my cart for the plugin I already own. Very strange.

Not sure when it was released. This is the first SSL Bus from UAD I have had.

Placed my Buss Compressor order yesterday, got a tracking number today, unit will be here Friday. Such an odd way to run a business. Ugh. Fedex just informed me that the compressor will be here Thursday instead of Friday. Now I have to wait one whole day less. I feel like I'm being gypped out of many months of anticipation and frustration.

HA! Mine is to arrive Friday. I have relieved you of your joy of anticipation by 24 hours.
I have come to enjoy many flavors of bus comp in the last year in plugin form. I think the most useful one for me has been some iteration of the SSL buss comp. So if I have to have one bus comp, it'll be this one.
However, I would love a 2254 style as well.
I see the V-Comp is coming. Oh my. This is dangerous.

Isn't the D-Comp a 2254 style compressor? A V-Comp is absolutely destined for my rack. And that will be the last compressor I buy for a while (famous last words).

V-Comp is very promising to me. Curious of the differences to the Retro.

Doh! I think I knew that for like 10 minutes and then forgot it because the D-comp was never on my radar while the V-Comp was. The other thing I'm really hoping Chris develops is a Curve Bender clone. He seemed intrigued by the idea when I mentioned it in a thread, and a lot of others seemed to like the idea as well. I'm hoping.

I know you are playing with that thing. It came today. Whats the verdict? I got a whole 18 hours or so left to wait.

Fedex dropped the ball. Some trouble they were having at a hub and now it's coming tomorrow as they originally told me.

D vs V comp , what is the actual sonic differences between these two? D is “drum comp” and is a stereo bus comp much like a Zener. V is a “vocal comp” and is to be like a Sta Level. At least that’s what I’ve surmised.

Yeah, Fedex my favorite either. But at least I'm not waiting on an SA67.

Indeed. Indeed.
I've decided if I go for a 67 it'll be the reissue. Just gotta plan for that kind of purchase.
Anyway. Here is to us bus compressing tomorrow with reckless abandon.
I've got just the song I am working on for it. Muhahaha. A cartoon theme cover...

I could be a player depending on how close they get with that one. I can't justify buying the reissue but if Heiserman nails it at $3k or less, I'll probably talk myself into it. I might use the buss compressor on a mastering project I'm going to start in a week or so. It's a 15 song punk album. A buddy of mine did the tracking and mixing. The songs are pretty squashed already so they don't need much comp, but we'll see. That's about all I have time for right now. I'm moving in two months and I need to finish packing and tossing. Depending on how quickly I find a house I want to buy, it will be some months before I get my studio up and running again.

The Heiserman I would imagine, will be the best they can possibly make it; probably worth waiting to at least compare. Cheers, Ross

I am curious how Heiserman fare with a 67 style indeed...
Buss comp is here. Plugged it up. Sounds great. The usual descriptors vs the plugin apply.
More on this later.

As you play with the AS comp even if tracks are already squashed I think you will find that the AS adds an interesting presence and re-profiles the sound: in a good way I often end of playing with the threshold just listening to how things change and in the context of the track what works best.
Have fun: it's certainly a solid piece of gear !

Interesting thoughts on the comp, thanks. I'll try that.
It's interesting that it seems the common thread is the fact that you get more compression with less "audible" compression in the hardware realm. I need to run a tone and see what is what to make sure, but I've found it to be the case with my 1176 and dbx comps.
I feel like I get a higher glue to audible compression ratio with the hardware box.
The UAD SSL plugin has UADs sort of signature "tone" to it which is nice, but it is more audible in its attack and release, and not as open/wide sounding.
I'm always curious to A/B vs the actual unit they model but this will have to do. The AS is very nice. Only $650.
As a guy in manufacturing I do care about aesthetics and materials/design. The AS doesn't disappoint me. It seems very nicely built IMO.
Great work. I will now have to get their other comps!
Samples will be in the future.

To me, ob is just more tactile and seems to have a sort of envelope to how it affects the signal and your learn this is unique to each piece of gear. Real gear to me is sort of alive in an interactive and visceral way. I just don’t get that same sense with plugs ?
