One of the big problems with this mic system is expecting it to sound like a U47, U67, C12, 251 ETC. It has it's own sound. It cuts through a mix a touch better, lacks some harmonic richness of the microphones it is emulating. It just sounds cleaner. Still, you can capture a really great sound with it if you understand what to expect. You want to use the emulated mic as a suggestion on where to use that cap. Place a B6 where you might use a C12 or M269. Place a B7 where you might use a U47, etc. The benefit of the mic is the flexibility. IMHO the Korby Kat did this better. Unfortunately, Korby is gone and Virtual Mic systems just don't do the job that well. If you want a U47 then go for a Wunder, FleA, or Heiserman. You'll get closer to "that sound" with one of them. Same goes for the other mics being emulated. If you want (1) mic that does a lot of things, then this system is an option.

That was a great cap (and wasn’t trying to be anything other than a great SDC) Problem was - LOL - the Blue Bottle ain’t no small anything! It’s a huge body just to be a tube SDC. If I could of justified the space and cost I would of kept it just for that B1 cap - it was very impressive on acoustic guitar and percussion like really, really impressive. But as a vocal mic I literally hated it. The B7 sounded like a 47 with cotton wool inside the cap - reminded me of that awful Norman 147. The B6 could remove a man’s fillings at 6 paces. The B0 (edge terminated 251 type cap) was very good however and I did some great airy, breathy BV’s with that cap. So the B0 and B1 were useful but I needed the 3K back then to but the Wunder CM7 and so I sold the system to a good friend - who has to this day loved it and completely disagreed with me One thing though- I love, love the B6 on the green Blue Kiwi mic, on this mic it’s far more mellow and has none of the etched tone of the EF86 tube in the Bottle. I’ve considered buying a B0 and B1 cap plus an adapter to fit them onto my vintage AKG 451E body. So I’m a Blue fan - not all negative from me

So I’m a Blue fan - not all negative from me I was so disappointed when I found out the Telefunken ELAM 260s no longer came with the bayoneted adapter, because I though it would be cool to have a few of these caps with that SDC system. The B1 is a great cap I wish I had found time to use more often. I agree with you on the Kiwi. Works amazingly with a good tube preamp like the Demeter VTMP. That's a great modern mic alternative to a U87. The B7 is definitely on the darker side. It worked with the Bottle Rocket II, but what I've heard of the big bottle does make it sound overly wooly. B0 on the right voice was very good, but was often to bright.

I'll keep an eye out for maybe a Bottle Rocket set that has some of the newer caps I don't own. The B1 seems interesting, as does the B4 pressure omni especially if it sounds ok with the same Rocket. I have a bunch of 451's (6, actually) so a couple of bayoneted adapters would be interesting.
But, honestly, the Bottle with the B6 is a sound I'm familiar with and like, and is a nice compliment to what I have. The other capsules were pretty much a bonus.

I was not a fan of the Bottle Rocket I personally. For me it sounds rather dull. I did pick up the a set with the main vocals caps though. That's how I was able to get all those caps for use with my Bottle Rocket II.
