lolo just bought the MCone...and the MCtwo looks fantastic...I'm posting before I read about it...but it's a DAC too? Can it be passive?
Our fully featured studio monitoring system contains a Control unit and Main 19'' rack mount unit. The Control Unit is an ergonomically designed desktop box with easy readable digital display, TALKBACK function and big analog VU meters. It sends commands to the Main Unit through a standard network RJ-45 cable with a length of up to 10 meters. Signal routing in the McTWO is achieved by using 25 sealed mechanical relays (instead of active IC's), maintaining a minimal signal path design wherein extraneous electronics are hard-wire bypassed. Using relays ensures the most transparent signal path maximizing dynamic range, frequency range, and headroom, while minimizing noise and coloration. The McTWO uses the highest quality passive components including high grade 1% tolerance metal film resistors, multi-element potentiometers and ultra-durable connectors to deliver the highest sonic performance.
Volume control built as relay array and 1% tolerance resistors provide you with accurate stereo image on all volume range with 1dB resolution. Three analog (¼'' balanced TRS) and one digital (AES or SPDIF) inputs can be independently routed to the studio monitors and the CUE send for live room head phones. Three speaker outs (¼'' balanced TRS) armed with out hand made transformers provide you with true balanced output and superior sound. Each speaker output has an independent gain adjustment so you are able to calibrate your speakers to the same level.
The McTWO has an onboard omni-directional condenser TALKBACK microphone which is routed through the CUE outputs for communication between artist and engineer. The Main Unit is equipped with an External TALKBACK XLR socket which is able to use any dynamic microphone as TALKBACK microphone and not just an internal one. The TALKBACK gain for both internal and external microphones can be adjusted by trim potentiometer on the front panel of the Main Unit. With McTWO you are able to connect your studio monitoring system to one of two available digital inputs - AES or SPDIF. Digital Input Selector and "Lock" LED located on front panel of Main Unit.
High quality headphone amplifier in Main Unit allows you to listen to both paths – the main monitors and the CUE output, toggled by the push button on the Control Unit. The Headphone Volume potentiometer is located on the front panel of the Main Unit.
Features
Five stereo inputs (2 digital and 3 analog)
24-Bit DAC for Digital Inputs (>120dB dynamic range)
Passive Audio Path – mechanical relay and 1% resistors provides 64dB with 1dB steps Volume control
