Anybody seeing any BF deals on mid to high end headphones ? AKG K702 and K701 are on sale at various places. K702 are my go-to critical listening headphones. And pleasure headphones, haha. Yes they are open back.

The waves SSL bus Comp is $29 today..
Everyone is always saying they wished for this one, as it's so desired..
I trust you guys. Is this one worth it? Or will it sit in the corner while I reach for other bus comps?

OK. I did it. Ordered a pair. We'll see how they shake out...... Will probably have either Brad or Dan mod the HF on these.... So have you given these a go yet? How do you like them?

Bottom end is great. Mids are OK. Top is scratchy. I'll probably have Brad dump in a bunch of high end chips to replace the crappy 1980's style opamps. Definitely useable. Sounds like an 80's chip based console. (Not an 80's Neve or API....)

I was interested in a pair of these for guitars more than anything, so saying that the mids are OK doesn't entice me too much. The price right now is hard to ignore for these but I may just wait and go with my original plan to get another pair of Electras. I assume you've heard or even own some Electras? How do they compare?

I wouldn't take my thoughts too seriously. I haven't had a lot of time to play with them yet. Those are my seat of the pants first impressions. Again, the bottom was the standout for me at first listen. And usually that's the hardest thing to get right (IMO). If I remember I'll come back and give more thoughts as I get into them further. I'm probably not doing any serious mixing until next year now.....writing like crazy for a new show. I do not have Electra's. I like what I've heard, but I have a hard time getting past their front panel esthetic.

Earlier this morning they were still $225 but it looks like they've just gone back up to $399. I'll pass for now. I'm still curious to hear your opinions after you've had more time with them though.

Yeah, for $400 I'd probably pass. Just gonna stick with my original plan to get another pair of Electras. By the way, are you still using and enjoying your CAPI LC35as? I'd still love to have a pair of those but I guess Jeff isn't making them anymore? API frequency points and recallability with an inductor based topology sounded like a match made in heaven.

I have an LC25 and LC40. Off the top of my head, I can't remember what the 35a is. I like the 25 better than the 40 because of it's freq points, but they are both great - and using one over the other is just about what freq points you need. I sure hope jeff is still making them. I'd like to have 2 25's and the 40. I like them better than the BT50's - which I'm getting along with a BIT better, but still not near the top of my list. The most used 500 EQ's here are still the API 550A-1's, and the original marainair LilPEQr's for sweetness boost.

I just checked. I meant the LC53a, not the LC35a.

Just used them on a high, tinkly piano that was going into a vary-mu. Wanted a little more body and some of the shimmer back that the varimu rubbed off. Worked beautifully. Top end was actually very nice.
