yes--the entire principle of Stedmans is that the metal is angled, so that incoming air is redirected. From memory, the little diamond shaped "punches" have alternating sides angled in different directions....

Couple of times we were bored enough to shoot out pop filters we found it's very mic & singer dependent, with some the Steadman ruled others the old nylon was the way to go some double layer nylon. Change the mic everything was different.

But, I bet none of them beat....none.

I use them when anyone else sings through my mic. I don't get too close, so I don't use them. But if there's something special, like the Abbey Road pop filter, I probably would use a pop filter occasionally.

I've been looking for an Abbey Road-type filter for ages. I tried a bunch of others, including the Stedman, and settled on the Pauly for now. It works great but, just for looks, man, you can't beat that Abbey Road filter. Especially on a 47. I'll be at Abbey Road next week, maybe if I ask nicely...

Levon, which filter is a "Pauly" ? I'm not familiar with the slang.
Very cool you'll be at Abbey Road. What are you up to there?

See also here I know, it IS expensive... I actually bought mine as a showroom model at a nice discount. It's the third time I'm at Abbey Road for mastering with Sean, a teenage dream-come-true. The first time I was there, I turned and stood face-to-face with George and Giles Martin. My wife couldn't believe what she saw, lol...

I wish I could afford to track there, I'd request John Lennon's mic Mastering is all I can afford. Still, I'm excited to be there, it's always a thrill...

For $300 for the Pauly, I'd rather find a way to get or make the EMI one, just because I dig it.

The Abbey Road design beats everything out there just for the looks. I'm sure it is pretty effective too, those designers back then knew what they were doing.

So these are definitely plastic, has two hairbands to hold it on, not thick, but there are a few separate layers of mesh, one metal, one cloth, real thin. Nice feel to it? Two for 2 bucks isn't bad for this.

What's different about the Abbey Road pop filter when compared to the Peluso or the MXL? I've forgotten and I don't have time to re-read the thread today.

Here is a picture of my main vocal mic, my Dan Wiley Audio D-251 with one of those $2 chinese pop screens. They seem to come in two sizes, this is one of the bigger ones. (My friend stepped on the small one > ).

Maybe I'll get one of those cheap screens. I have a standard pop filter, but I hate the weight added to the already too top heavy mic stand.

What's different is that it has a coarse curved outer screern and a fine flat inner screen, meshes chosen for acoustic properties. Clips to a U47 at a predetermined distance.

Wish I could get one :-) Does Abbey Road still get them made, or are they really old?

I did a bit more testing with my chinese curved metal screen pop filter.
I decided it's doing weird stuff to the sound. In the sibilance area, but also something in the low end.
I guess I can't recommend them any more.
I'm going back to my old gooseneck pantyhose filter for now.
