Compressor 2. By far.

Normally Jesse and I agree and have very similar tastes but on my ear buds I prefer comp 1. It adds more harmonic content to your voice and makes me feel like you are singing to me

#2 sounds like more compression. I like 1 a little better. 2 sounds like it was rounding off your vibe a bit, although it sounded more like a record.
Edit to say if I were producing, you're gonna want to keep that vibe before it it gets shaved off elsewhere.

Agree somewhat with donr. #2 is grabbing the transients just a bit too aggressively - while #1 may not be grabbing enough. If I had to choose - and assuming you can't go back and dial up the threshold on #2 a tad, I'd go with #1 with the expectation that things will probably glue a little more in mastering.

I like compressor #2 by quite a large margin.
The biggest difference I reckon, is not the compression as thats probably adjustable to get them closer together in that sense, but the tonal change.... 2 is open, where 1 is congested in the low mids ...to me anyways
cheers

That's probably just me My voice is fucking annoying to record.

Compressor 1. Compressor 2 is robbing some top end off the track and the long release isn't working. The short release on Compressor 1 is a little pumpy, but I think it mostly works here - some sidechain filtering would fix it if you really want to be picky.

What mic did you use here? MaxMod 67. Hmm, that's interesting! I wonder what you would sound like on a C37a or Sanken or one of the Josephson C37 capsule mics like C715 or Manley Reference silver.

I just tend to need a smooth, forgiving mic. My voice is bright and can be brash. Transients are fast and I'm sibilant. I'm a real treat to work with! I do really like the 67 though. It's incredibly shapeable with EQ. I left it pretty flat and raw here to just hear the sonic footprints of the two comps I'm playing with. At mix time, I normally mult it and EQ both tracks with the Harrison 32c's and squish one of them further with an 1176 and blend to taste.

Funny you say that the iPhone 7 and 7 plus that have the stereo playback well the speaker on the top of my 7 plus is blown so anything over half volume starts to distort and crackle.. thought to myself man does he hear that distortion ... then thought oh yeah its my piece of Shit $800 iPhone 😂😂 Hence the ear bud reference

In "not earbuds" headphones, 2 by quite a bit. The first doesn't really sound compressed--just distorted. I'd be curious to hear that track sans any compression....I don't generally find compression will gut the mids, so I have to assume 1 is just emphasizing the worst nasal attributes possible with the saturation.

Nothing wrong with Comp 2, other than it was to me too mannerly for the performance and material. Too 'radio ready?'
2 sorta softened the edge of Ragan's vocal to my ear. Ragan said his voice is hard for him to record. It's all context to me. If the material warrants, edge is good. If you're crooning (like I do mostly,) maybe you want smoother.
Point is, I wouldn't shave off vibe at this point in the production.

I have no doubt that any one that I will choose as liking better will most likely be the sta-level and prove that I don't know what I'm talking about...and I really shouldn't try and answer because I'm just listening on the laptop...
BUT with just listening on 6 centimeter woofers, I thought that #1 added a harmonic/distortion that made the vocal more strident. #2 sounded better to me.
Think I like these second takes better...A seems less colored...but again, I need to listen on the nearfields. I'll report back when I do.
