You can, as you say park them in your account. They are yours so UA can't force you to sell them. Apparently, UA wil transfer just an account to another UA user, as well, so you could sell just your purchased plugs ins to someone too. Oh really. So you can sell without hardware? But you still run up against the ridiculous "all or none" thing.

yes and yes: like a perfect date (but, don't get me started on the all or none, my otherwise reasonable demeanour frays quickly, my Canadian diplomacy, goes out the window and a seething rant ensues

So more ludicrous UAD policies.... Sounds like we are purchasing usage not ownership of said plugs... a shame when an octo is 1,000 + 250 for the new SSL 4kE mk2 and you can only run a max of 8 stereo instances at 44.1khz sampling rate...

Johnkenn maybe just buy a used Clarett first and AB with the BF Apollo b4 going thru with the whole thing... just a thought 😊 Actually this is exactly why/how I bought my Symph mkii:. saved abut 2 grand buying a used one. I wouldn't have bought it new. I a/b ed and as I wasn't using the ua plugs nor unison for tracking, had a octo card and preferred the sonics of the symph mkii: the decision was made. Further up, I appreciate what Ragan said abut frustrations with the dbox, which I really liked but given its retail cost, the fact that it had no digital out, I always found odd. It is after all only 2 channel and made from stock, very good but older components. Anyway to each their own and buy the best you can afford and that creates the workflow and sonics that you prefer. My used symph was a little over 3 grand cdn, when they retail for 5, I couldn't say no.

I've had a similar discussion with myself. I probably won't bother, as there are other priorities at the moment, but I recently went thunderbolt, so I sold my silver Apollo for the Blackface Duo in order to get the free Quad satellite. I use the Ocean Way, ATR-102 and API 2500 regularly, everything thing else, occasionally. I could probably get away with keeping the Quad satellite without many system overloads, so I could sell my Blackface now.
The thing is, what would sound better. I'd bet the Symphony would be a great upgrade, but I couldn't afford that switch. Let's say I get $1300 for my blackface Duo, I could add maybe.. $300 if it mattered. So, if I can't get a Symphony II for say.. $1,600, the Clarett would have to be significantly better for me to bother, as I'd lose 1/3 of my dsp power.
Listened to the files. Who knows what's happening on their end. I'd choose A, but A does seems louder, so my choice could be skewed. After that Z had some glue and a nice balance, like a good mix, with good intelligibility, but was duller next to the clarity X had. I'd take A, and then try to get a little more glue on it.

If you only need 2 ins and 2 outs, you could sell your blackface, buy a Tascam UH-7000 and a monitor controller for $400 and pocket $900 and I doubt it would be a step down in quality.

The UH-7000 is severely good for what it is. Also the monitor controller is a big deal. I stepped up to a Drawmer MC 2.1, and it's worlds apart from any of my previous setups. Also the smaller Claretts look like great bargains. I've thought about leaving Apollo, or going to the black versions, but the value just does not seem to be there. In fact I've gone to buying more Apollos recently. Still waiting on my Twin in the mail.

It seems cool, but I just couldn't look at the name Tascam again. Not to say it isn't good, but for me, it's like one of those things you ate or drank too much of when you were younger, you just can't, even if others love it.

So, does anyone know if Focusrite has released the answers to the link above? The more I abused the clips, I REALLY like one....a....lot more than the other two.

The Old Crow of audio, must be Tascam.
Really curious to see how this shootout plays out.
I thought the vocal on Y was a lot harsher sounding, and sibilant. Kind of threw the whole vibe off for me.
X had the best low end? Might be my favorite.
Z seems pretty well balanced all around but the drums aren't hitting very hard.

Not even sure how to find out. I got this as a mailer and nowhere does it say, "click here to find out results."

Also they're different takes and slightly different "arrangements" if you could call it that. Just a lot of improv going on, by some great players no doubt, so I can't grab a phrase or so and loop it while swapping back and forth. I find it hard to come up with a strong preference.

I'm installing my Apollo Twin Duo silver later this afternoon. Clarett will be used in ADAT/SPDIF mode from then.

Idk it may have been someone else or I could have completely misread and be mistaken... won't be the first time if so ...

To which I have slaved a Clarett 8PreX and a Presonus DP88 As well as a Tascam UH-7000, which still has by far, my favorite headphone amplifier. The Clarett DAC is my main monitor DAC, I just love how it sounds. They will all be used for tracking and mixing. I am excited to get that set up and start with it. Today I'm just listening to Frank Ocean and enjoying the fact that they all basically work together. My plan is to use Apollo Unison preamps for my drum sounds, and the rest for other tracks, and outboard mixing inserts.

Did anyone ever find out? I just got asked what 8 preamp unit I'd recommend....and my first thought was "whatever C was in that shootout"....ha.
I feel like maybe I should email them my "Vote" but change it to A, which I'd guess is the Clarrett---like maybe they only reply if you prefer theirs?
