I think a running thread would be really interesting given that we all probably have different tastes. I'd love to hear what is turning everyone on. Think of it as a brother thread to the what you were bumping in high school thread.
I'll start with the Andy shauf record 'the party'. The album sounds great. makes me realize how real and organic instruments sound when they are played only loud enough.
It's not new but it's newish, the tame impala records sound so cool. The DRUMS. good GOD.
Mount eerie 'clear moon'. Great textures. Interesting play with balances. He forges his own road.

Funny, as soon as I saw this thread I thought of Tame Impala "Lonerism" and "Currents". Brilliant stuff, sonically and otherwise.

I haven't heard a new album lately that blew my mind sonically. I loved The War On Drugs, but it's certainly not a hi-fi sound. My friend just gave me a Nick Cave LP, but I only listened for a few minutes, and it sounded good. If I have to reach for a relatively "new" album that sounds amazing, I'd have to go as far back as Beck's "Sea Change".

Check out Beck "Morning Phase" if you haven't, Martin. It's beautiful and kind of the continuation of Sea Change.

My opinion hasn't changed. Liquid Spirit..Gregory Porter.
The bar has been set in my mind.
And this is for pure recording techniques. I can't imagine doing it better from start to finish.

I hear a lot of natural room in there. And silence in air between the notes. You're right. It's simplicity at work in a wonderful space. That room and mic placement probably the key to that sound. And dead silence when nothing else is going on. Someone on here once mentioned that. There is something very special about a dead silent recording room. Fact.

Future - Future self titled and Hendrxx. Mixed By my buddy Seth Firkins and Mastered By Glenn Schick... Hendrxx is more commercial radio whereas Future self titled is raw... If you don't like tibstylenif music you won't get the mixing... Basically taking super limited beats from producers who don't want their beats altered and still make this type of quality is 🔥
Rick Ross - Rather You than Me.. Mixed By Fabian Marascuillo... Mastered By Chris Athens... Loud references always. Clean vocal, upfront vocal, every element precise, production immaculate picked as always. The mixes shine on the sparse organic sounding songs like Idols turned Rivals, powers that be and triple platinum...
Haven't heard drake new more life yet....

Fleetwood Mac Rumours still kills me. I think the Newest Keith Urban sounds really good. Use it as a reference a lot.

The last 7 - 8 years of 'new pop rock' like the 1975, Reliant K, Switchfoot, 1000 foot etc have a front of the mouth in between the teeth type of sound that eludes me to some degree. Clearly, it's a one-trick pony (this style) but it is one HELL of a trick!!!

This band must have some legit business people managing them. Totally put together. Also, happy belated Ward-o.
This is 6 years old now, but damn these vocals are amazing.

Anyone here listen to Coconut Records? It's a Jason Schwartzman thing, and the record Davy is quite possibly one of my favorite records ever. The songwriting is super cool, but the arrangements are on point. The production is like a continuation of late Beatles stuff. I've never been able to find out any production info from the record but I highly recommend it if you're into that kind of thing!

Johnkenn said, "Fleetwood Mac's Rumours still kills me."
I always found Rumors to be annoyingly light in the bass when I put on the record. Amazing songwriting and playing though.

Also Wilco's Sky Blue Sky is just an incredible masterpiece. I constantly come back to it to see how I want my recording to sound!

Esperanza Spalding's Radio. It's from 2012....but, new to me, since I knew her as upright playing jazz singer (so I didn't really pay attention) until she did promo for her prog Rock thing a couple years ago....that's hit or miss because even the 96khz is clobbered....but, it got me to go back and buy the last few to hear the evolution from traditional jazz upright to funky prog fusion. Radio is a gem in that transformation.
And yes, you want the 24/96 like my previous Porter ref.
