Thanks guys. Cinder was a real beauty. A malamute and a real wolf looking dog. . The cancer had taken over her head and ... well she had done: 7 national tours, over 20 regional, and burningman twice. Alright I am done pissing and moaning. I have built a decent prototype monitor controller with some daw facility since i am stuck in front of a laptop. Midi and code, midi and code Oh what a wonderful world midi and code. I am very sorry to hear of your recent troubles. Losing a pet during all of that is even harder to deal with. I know exactly how you feel because I snapped my femur in half in 2015 and had extensive surgery. It sucks. Mentally and physically humbling, lots of questions ... can be easy to get down... For me what made me positive was knowing i could been dead or permanently paralyzed which I am neither. I am still recovering and take each day as it comes. The music makes things better. I left the hospital in a wheelchair and was in one for two and a half months. Very humbling experience and it shows you who in your life really genuinely cares about you when you go through something of this magnitude. I wish you the best and a quick and speedy recovery. Have a great day and don't forget to smile 😀🙏

It was funny but after leaving the hospital with five rods making up the rebar for my thigh I saw your profile pic and for a second I thought you somehow found one of my x-rays from Facebook or somewhere; it was paradoxical and weird (or should I say I was feeling paradoxical and weird), as it looks nearly identical to one of the x rays i posted. I then remembered and thought to myself: 'No, Chase has had that pic for awhile' and blew it off as strange coincidence. It has been humbling. I can do more now though and i am not taking anymore pain meds but its still weeks before i will be able to walk without a walker. The old lady is a wreck and is frustrated. It was her dog. For my 12 yr old it was all he ever knew. Obviously financially shit is tight. I am Not in trouble but there goes my trip to India and summer tour. Its all been a bummer. Devotchka's "How it Ends" was mixed on a Ghost with ad16x's and the engineer said the Royer 121's really brought the brass sections out. I believe i need some Royers.

I hope you continue to get better and better ( you will, it takes time ) Im here for you and feel free to PM me whenever you want to talk or need a fresh perspective. Seeing as you are on a walker, you are doing way better than I was at the point you are at now. When the storms come you will feel it about 20 min before. It's hard to explain but you feel it in the metal and bones. I am now walking without a cane throughout the day and haven't used it since New Years basically so I am happy about that. You can always travel when you regain your strength and heal up 🤠👍

I've got three titanium rods in my leg after completely breaking my femur in half. When I saw the x-rays, I couldn't believe something that big fit in my leg. The rods weren't the size of a nail, or a pencil, they were as thick as a finger and considerably longer. It still hurts and is weaker after a decade, but you just keep pushing through.
Hmm.. I wonder if titanium affects my mixing somehow, the last mix has been troublesome ;-)
I used a Ramsa board, then a Yamaha board for ten years at home. It was so simple and easy, I still miss it. I'd just put the Lexicon reverb and delay on a a bus, dial it in, had DBX compressors, good mics, and never had a day's issue with plugs not working, iLok authorizations, installation issues, etc.
The only thing I like about a DAW is no tape, and recall/editing. So, my answer is analogue in, digital mix for now. Eventually, I'll be analogue final mix when I can get another EQP-1A and a Stam compressor. I'd love to do hardware reverb again too.
I honestly don't know if I'd prefer a board again, but do miss it. It gets to me Jim speaks of better quality, because I typically lean in that direction, even if it's less convenient. Maybe I'll be satisfied when I can finally mix to analogue, and possibly use a summing mixer.

Not certain about price but if you don't even have a 500 chssis yet, this is intriguing:

I use two small format desks, a 1981 "portable" Trident: and a 2011 Audient ASP2802: I also have two cars, a 1982 Mercededs 240D and a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid. The consoles and the cars handle very similar to their counterparts of the same age.

I've found that Tridents have a tendency to understeer when pushed hard in a corner (although they do respond well to throttle input) while the Audient is more neutral. You? 😀

Nice rig subspace!
I once saw a Trident 24 console on Ebay for $2500, with a lovely custom desk, completely overhauled with I think an upgraded power supply. Man, was that ever tempting, but I just couldn't swing it then.

Both the 240D and the Trimix steer like boats, which I don't consider a negative, it's pretty hard to botch a mix when any drastic changes in direction need to be planned for 300 meters in advance.
When driving a hybrid it's pretty easy to get caught up in hyper-miling, trying to keep your rpm in the ideal electric drive range, while forgetting the object rapidly growing larger in front of you. Also true for hybrid mixing.

Once in a while, I will mix on my Mackie VLZ4 or the summing mixer. It's a wonderful land that for some reason I don't often return to. I also have metal in my arm, so I can empathize with that sort of damage. This thread is inspiring me, so thanks to everyone who has posted. It's good to have passionate people around to keep me on the straight and narrow path of great audio. When I woke up this morning I was a little discouraged, but now I feel excited to make new sounds again.

Just need a pair of Heiders and a pair of our CA-70s - solid state or tube or BOTH = GAME OVER

The consoles and the cars handle very similar to their counterparts of the same age. You know ive seen pics of your studio online for several years and had always wondered what board that was. I had guessed a Yammie (oops). Also that you were rocking 3 ACMP's. Another thing to keep in mind kathedog, is the expense. Done proper for 16-24 channels you'd need at least 3 patchbays fully stuffed. Its a lot of cabling and snakes. Im sure i have at least a thousand and thats using half used snakes. So for example ill just use 16: 16 channels out of da converter into patchbay. 16 channels out of patchbay into mixing console. 16 channels out of console back to patchbay. 16 channels out of patchbay into ad converters 16 sends out of patchbay to console. 16 returns from console to patchbay (this is dependent on console but typical) 4-8 channel insert snake (for 2 bus and aux) If you had eight outboard effects youd need another 16 cables (or 1-2 snakes) to patch them into patchbay. Now you could definitely narrow it down but the above gives the most flexibility and if your gonna use a console you might as well use it. That said imo its totally worth it.

DAC>SB/CA70/Heiders/ETC>Zulu. Now you're playing with power. Add a compressor if you dare.
Thanks -L.
