I've been curious about this too. I believe it has a built in preamp. That makes me wonder how I'd bypass the preamps in my Apollo interface.

If I wanted to go straight into the Apollo, I'd need a TRS cable out from the microphone, correct? That would work? I'm use to the typical 3 hole female inputs.

Easy to get. You'd be totally fine.

If the Chandler is in the same class as vintage U67's and 47's, it's a good deal at that price.

I haven't read what's above this. - at least in a while. Here's my deal. I've heard this mic. It sounds fantastic. Really, really good. But there's no ONE mic that can be IT for everyone. I just recorded a female vocal through my Upton 251 and it was terribly sibilant. Like the worst. For me - it's really good.

Correct the XLR out is line level. FYI, about to update the PSU pics..prior to shipping a jewel light was added to the faceplate and the PSU switch was relocated to the rear and is now same as the one the REDD.47 rack unit.

What Wade has done here is nothing short of revolutionary. Is it a U47? Pretty much! And the matching of the Redd preamp? Totally legit. Here's the thing... It's just taking some of us a long time to get our head around... it's a new concept. Having one of the most desired microphones with one of the most desired preamps in the same cylinder.

Well thanks Ward, though, it isn't clone of any vintage mic, the sound is very much its own thing; however, visually we're paying tribute to the greats. Wade felt that if he was going to do this, the mic had to be on par or in the "same class" as those fantastic historic mics still in use at Abbey Road and stand on its own, after years of development, we and Abbey Road Studios feel it hit the mark.

Like I stated above, it's taking some of us some time to get our heads around.

Well it sure is in the U47 family!! And what happened to my free demo units at the end of NAMM?

And what happened to my free demo units at the end of NAMM? Ha! Actually...my NAMM mic has been "Marooned" on a session in L.A. ever since the show. My other mic took its first breath out in front of Tommy Lee's kit about a week ago; in mono it sounded thunderous, balanced and mixed; they are now getting a matched pair. Smiley placed the mic where their U47 normally sits. https://www.instagram.com/p/BQD7AWtDrEk

I'm not sure what's hard to wrap your mind around. It's a new mic, new design, endorsed by Abbey Road, but the preamp is a classic, and instead of being outboard, it's located in the mic.
Simple. What's not to understand?
I look forward to hearing and/or buying one at some point. Sure it would be nice to have the REDD preamp separate to use on other mics, but that option IS available by buying the preamp separate. Having the preamp inside the mic body and driving line level instead of mic level for 50, 100, 150+ feet to your console / Daw / patch bay almost certainly makes it sound significantly better than a standard design - all things being equal.

Well, drbill, it's a lot for ME to get my head around because it means getting used to it and thinking about using it for its various applications and not being able to meddle. Even though it is a spectacular U47 type microphone and a fantastic REDD preamp... still, the tinker in me wants to constant;y try new things and patch things around etc. And well, see? It's a different way of thinking.

That's cool. There's a lot of things I don't "get". This one is easy for me though.

It is definitely a new concept. I love the idea and hope to get me my hands on one soon. For traveling and mobile recording, having the PRE built in would be an amazing feature.

You just nailed it!! I never stopped to think about how amazing it would be to have 2 to 4 of these with my mobile rig.
