I’m curious to try higher sample rates. I’ve been using 44.1/24 forever. I just worry about processing power as my track counts are pretty damn high these days - often pushing triple digits. Maybe will give it a go on a simple project coming up just for shits and giggles

I read a long time ago that some plug-ins work better at 96k. So, all my personal work is at 96k, but my professional work is at 48k, just for compatibility with friends whose gear is long in the tooth. Quick fix to this, don't use plugins.. Oh my, I'm beginning to sound like Eppstein.

Well that was a Taylor made response. John E. prefers the (George) Martin approach, to better get an ovation. Chris

Funny you should say that Shadow. Twelve years back when I was just starting to work in a DAW, a friend who is a major league engineer/producer with dozens of Grammy's and other awards came by to help me get started. First thing he did was remove 95% of my plug-ins, ha!

96 on vocals at minimum for peace of mind, but I could probably get away with 48. Like others have said, mostly for low latency and anti-aliasing.

I’ve gone around the horn several times on this. A definite difference to my ears through my RME. 24/88.2 is the most complimentary to my voice. 44.1 and 48 sound thinner and brighter, while 96 is really full but brings out more mids.

88.2 or 96. I prefer 96 on tracking because of the latency issues.

Is this realbatsonline! Ok so my new 13900K uber ‘puter arrived so I can finally run projects at 48KHz 24bit instead of 44.1/24 But I’d be a liar if I said I can actually hear any difference in a double blind ABX (oh how I’d like to test some of you older high sample rate bats in a proper ABX :-) On paper apparently (according to the one and only Bob Katz) my HEDD 192 sounds better at 48 over 44.1 …. clearly he’s the head bat in the cave (I beg you Chris no puns And now I’m moving to 48/24 of course I have a new issue that I’ll have to sample rate convert back to 44.1 for submission to CD Baby as the aggregator they require files at 44.1 which will possibly mitigate any benefits of recording at 48KHz - hopefully not.

Did a few blindtests and null tests. Found out that if you record cleanly (with minimum distortion gear), then it doesn't make a noticable difference. I mix with higher sample rates tho as aliasing especially with distortion plugin can be nasty.

I have found I don’t have a hard and fast rule, but I have noticed you can tell both AD and DA converters definitely show what they’re designers favorite sample rate is and Mytek definitely likes 96K.
