FWIW....I bit the bullet a couple weeks ago....did the upgrade....haven't had any issues. I DO feel like there's a little more "stop and sys overload" when opening UIs of plug ins and such, which is a function of built in intel graphics on Airs and Minis and 21" iMacs, I would bet....since the CPU will be at 15%....and it overs opening a plug in UI. But, that happened with 10.2 as well--while it seems more frequent now, I've got nothing but perception to back that up....
However, the one super cool bit that they need to advertise that they DIDN'T...is that now their plugs (at least the EQ and compressor) are all mid/side capable. By taking a stereo channel and selecting the new "dual mono" option, you can configure it as L&R or M&S....I haven't used it much yet as that's usually a "fixit" thing, but man to leave THAT out of the ad copy of new features seems odd. So I wanted to give the heads up. I discovered it by accident really...."what is this new dual mono....oh wait--now I have an input matrix page...."

Since this changed pages, I DO want to reiterate that there are no backsies on iOS....and I can confirm not only what Wiz reported, that the new Logic Remote won't work with 10.2....the opposite is also true. The last version won't work with 10.3. This actually started because osmehting happened where my old iPad2 autoupdated and no longer worked with 10.2....I made sure my iPhone would not update....but, I use the iPad nearly exclusively FOR that....so, I backed up 10.2 and let it update to 10.3. So, I currently can't use my phone for control--because I wanted to leave myself a backout plan in case 10.3 was somehow too much for my low rent machine.
I've still not opened, thus updated, some work in progress projects....but I did this Sunday afternoon ground up in 10.3 in a handful of hours without issue:

YMMV.

Dudez... Got a question for ya. A buddy of mine, a producer in NYC is updating his system to run Logic off what would be a "music only" computer in the studio. He asked me about the new iMac, which I have no experience with, so I figured I'd ping the RGO Mac braintrust here to ask if anyone knows if there are any issues running Logic, how much processing power does a full Logic session eat up, and if fan noise is an issue with the new iMac.

The question of processing power is an impossible one to answer. Because it depends on the session, and there really isn't any standard of what a "full" logic session is. I have no issues, but I dont use Virtual Instruments, and my track counts rarely exceed 24 playing back, i submit vocals and things down as I go. I also dont monitor direct in logic, but off the interface, again another issue that might raise its head for someone else. But i will say this, I like logic, runs well on my iMac. As always, the biggest CPU with maxed out RAM will always work the best, its always just a question of dollars to donuts. cheers Wiz

Have you had any issues with the noise from the fans when the processor gets taxed and they kick into high gear?

On older macs that might happen, but not related to CPU, a SMC reset would cure it cheers Wiz

About to pull the trigger. I've waited long enough. They don't seem to have screwed too much up. We can actually pan stuff now. Unbelievable

Did they fix the messed up multithread system? Because I just posted how Logic splits the CPU load terribly uneven, and I am having trouble on their flagship Mac Pro 12 core with 64GB of RAM running an Apple software. That rubs me the wrong way. Have tried every solution under the sun, and I am still having overload issues, which is making these fast approaching deadlines more stressful than normal. To my knowledge, Logic is apparently the least efficient of this out of all of the major DAWs.
I'm pretty unhappy that they locked 10.3 behind an OS upgrade. I am at 10.10.5 Yosemite with no plans of upgrading because A. I would lose a bunch of older plugins and B. I figure if it isn't broken, don't fix it.
This is the last nail in the coffin for me, and after almost a decade using Logic, I will be switching to Cubase Pro 9 as my main DAW after I complete this final project in Logic.

I never looked until your thread, so I've been keeping the floating CPU open. I've only got 4 wee cores....there's always one running way hotter than the others, likely the one turbo boosting as needed.....the others stay fairly even. I've sat and watched the one peak out and the engine doesn't over... I hear you on the locking to OS....up you how much their integrating iOS apps....but, I believe I never minced words that THAT is the risk in buying loss leader software from a hardware company. You Steiny license will cost you $100/year if you need it to run on newer OSX. I know--since a skipped the last bunch, my upgrade price was $299, 8.5 ran like crap on my laptop, and I don't abide stuff that runs like crap....so I bought LPX to have some musical fun with the Drummer. But, I still have my Cubase license and Windows box it runs like a champ on (and so did the 8.5 demo)....I do hope it fixes your issue.

I have a 2011 iMac. Graphics look just fine on mine Wiz. Don't have anything happening that can be called blurry. I find the new colors seems a bit juvenile, like the colors used to decorate grade schools, but they are a little easier on the eyes, nevertheless. I've never had the experience of using Logic or ProTools on a huge monitor. I'd bet that it feels a little more like a console, using a 40" monitor.
I haven't quite wrapped my head around the new stereo panning update. Would you guys mind giving me a simple explanation. Say I have a standard mono electric guitar track, and I want to pan it to say...10:00,. So, I turn the dial left to 10:00, and I'm done. How is the new panning any different?
I'm bummed to hear that after the update the various external controllers don't work. What the hell kind of update is that? Leaving customers with devices that can't do what they bought them for? I'm sure they'll catch up, but that's just poor planning or they're being terribly inconsiderate of pro users IMO.
* Sierra's been nice, no issues, it seems more stable than the previous O.S.

The new panning only changes for STEREO channels....you can now adjust right and left placement independently--like has been done on every other mixer since the invention of the pan pot.

Say I have a standard mono electric guitar track, and I want to pan it to say...10:00,. So, I turn the dial left to 10:00, and I'm done. How is the new panning any different? I watched a tutorial on it and the new feature is clearly an improvement. I think I basically understand what it does, but I'm not sure exactly how it's being accomplished. Let's stick with clock postions even though Logic uses L & R numbers, where 7 oclock is hard left and 5 oclock is hard right. In the old version, when you panned to 10, what do you think was happening? Was the right channel simply being attenuated? Was the left channel volume increased to compensate? My guess is all of the above, maintaining as wide an image as possible. With the new interface, you pick the center of the image - say 10 oclock, but you can also control the width of the image. Say narrow with 'edges' at 9 and 11, or wider with edges at 8 and 12 (a four hour width). From there, if you turn the "Knob" moving the center to 1 oclock, the "width" will move accordingly (11 and 3). Put another way, the two perameters that set the width of the image define the 'center.' Clear as mud?

Almost get it, thanks M57. So, I click and hold to turn the knob left or right, how do I then set the width?

Nothin's broke and I don't want to jinx things while all my plugs work. As far as I can tell, that's pretty much the only upgrade feature that I would care about at this point so I'm holding off.

yay, good to know Wiz.
M57, the update to Sierra was flawless. I think Logic likes it better, way less system overloads or weird things happening now, and things in general seem a little faster.
