My songs are mostly written with a guitar - I love piano / keys but my playing is really clumsy... Enter EZ Keys - incredible writing tool, really versatile, if you've got a basic idea of what you want then it will pretty much play backing for you... ( saves asking your keyboard playing mate who's always depressed or got the flu to help out ) https%3A//soundcloud.com/user-746923904/the-muse-didnt-mean-to-cause-the-bluesAny favourites that help with your songwriting?

It has exactly two chords, so I suppose it would come with something very depressed sounding, maybe with the flu. Or you could call me, and i will drink some medicine, about three with coke, corn liquor being good for what ails ya, and then i will rip it in one take. The slideshow took longer than the recording, but getting just the right photos of some iconic Hammond organs got me sidetracked. And then when I found that pic of Goldy McJohn, well , I had to get a dose of ny first favorite band LOUD.....Pretty good sounding records, BTW, way ahead of the majority of their 15 minutes of musical relevance.

Does anybody here use Masterwriter? Thoughts? Hmmm wonder if Des'ree used it ? I'm afraid of the dark, 'specially when I'm in a park And there's no-one else around, Ooh, I get the shivers I don't want to see a ghost, It's a sight that I fear most I'd rather have a piece of toast And watch the evening news

Paddy, please let me know what your drum recording and mixing process was. I like the realism on the drums.

Hmmm wonder if Des'ree used it ? So I take it you think MW might be responsible for the seemingly endless string of couplets that characterize modern pop lyric writing? 😂 lol, no. This is my unqualified opinion, and I will defer to the proper songwriters here. MW does seem to over complicate the process of writing a pop song. By the time Des'ree had finished the first line, the hook and the melody were in. Everything else then becomes less important lyric wise as "Life, oh Life" is on repeat in peoples heads. It seems that it's more important that lyrics fit (rhythm / syncopation wise) the song / melody and perhaps rhyme more than the meaning of the lyrics themselves. Although an exception is rap where the lyrical content is greater than the melody, and MW may be ideal. What do you think of MW?

Paddy, please let me know what your drum recording and mixing process was. I like the realism on the drums. Hi Martin - EZDrummer pop / rock drums with velocities tweaked, cymbals and snare mixed a bit higher than the standard settings, and quite a bit of bleed. No compression anywhere on these drums! Sent to 3 busses, Valhalla Room (Large Wooden Room), Valhalla Room (Small Hall) and Reapers own IR Verb with an M7 London Plate. I guess like me your used to playing live with the kit sat behind you, and that' s the sound I tried to achieve. To me, on slower songs the kit sounds wrong when compressed and overly separated. I'm more used to the bass guitar making the snare buzz, the snare ringing and the cymbals splitting your eardrums.

I've never used it, so that's why I'm asking for opinions. I've looked and passed a couple of times. Is the rhyming dictionary better? How about near rhymes? What you get from an internet search is pretty good, so does MW have other benefits? I don't know.

Well done Snowflake!
I have Superior Drummer. I wish I'd gotten EZ Drummer instead. There's a feature on EZ Drummer, where you can create a simple beat, and it automatically finds all the beats closest to that for you. I sometimes I have to listen to dozens of beats, just to find one that works, so I often end up settling for something that's OK instead of good, and my patience wears out. I've asked Toontracks if they ever intend an update to SD2. It's ridiculous that the simpler program the offer has such an important feature the flagship doesn't. They said they can't discuss future updates! They should have offered this to SD2 users a long time ago. I'd bet they're saving it for an SD3 release and will ask us to pay $150 for it!
I would just buy EZ drummer, but this pisses me off.
I've never been able to get the snare and kick to be a little softer in verses where I want them to be, no matter how much I tweaked the velocities. It seems the original sample has a certain amount of whack, and you just can't get the same snare hit to play softer where a drummer ould naturally ease off a little, even though you can lower volume.
I never researched EZ Keys at all. I'm guessing you somehow input chords on the computer? I have an Axiom 61 keyboard controller in my closet. I can play a little, but it takes me forever to get all the chord voicings right.
I should have bought EZ Keys a long time ago. I often need just a nicely played piano with one chord each measure.

I can play a little, but it takes me forever to get all the chord voicings right. I should have bought EZ Keys a long time ago. I often need just a nicely played piano with one chord each measure. I use the first version of EZ Drummer, but if I understand correctly EZD 2 uses a similar engine to EZKeys. Here's what makes EZKeys so powerful: The basic package comes with a vst piano ( I bought the Grand ) plus some midi runs, arpeggios, or block chords. You can buy further midi packages from Toontrack, and there are also third party developers offering midi. If you write a song on a guitar, you can then "write" those chords into the EZKeys browser window as block chords. You can change the Key, change the chords to extended chords, sevenths, diminished etc. with a couple of clicks. You can then audition the EZKeys midi ( it lists in playing styles), and these then will change those block chords to arpeggios in the style of your choosing (in other word like having a very competent pianist playing your song!). You can mix and match different playing styles on the fly. For example, you could highlight the verse chords to play a country rock style, and the chorus to a heavy rock style. I bought a third party country rock midi package and it's amazing. If that's not enough, you can then drag the whole midi sequence once finished into a DAW midi track. That way you can now use third party piano / keys VSTi's to play that midi if you have a preference ( plus you can buy further piano packages similar to the EZDrummer model). Finally you can use it to write scores for string, horns, or whatever midi instruments you want to assign that midi to. Prior to this if I wanted to add midi instruments, I would either have to play the keys myself (to a very limited standard) or try and write the midi into the midi browser thingy. It's a powerful writing tool in itself, plus you can use it as a piano tutor and learn to play the midi runs yourself if you want. As a noob to DAW's and midi, to me, EZKeys is total midi freedom! (They should pay me for this lol)

Thanks for that Snowflake!
Now I have to put some money aside for the EZ Keys package. Gotta buy a pedal first, and maybe change main guitar amps, but it's up there on the list now. I like some of Apple's keyboards. The Yamaha piano and the horn section work nicely for me, and I also have an IK Multimedia Mellotron that's fun to use on occasion.
Which brand Country Rock package did you buy?

Which brand Country Rock package did you buy? I bought the basic country pop 1 pack from piano-loops.com/country-pop-piano-loops-vol1/#audio They do all styles though. I've also got a few of the EZKeys packs as they are really good. I snagged a few IK bits when they had a sale, the Mellatron is fun, not sure what I'd use it on. Miroslav's nice.
