Any opinions on what a decent price is for an mv692 w. UM70 or M70 or M71 capsules these days? Ballpark? Also, am I safer sticking to p48 models or should I still be fine with one of the older models with power supply? Wondering how likely I am to run into a poor capsule or problematic mv692.. and how easy these are to have serviced. thank you! mm Everytime I think about selling my pair, I review sold pricing on Ebay and Reverb. 6 months ago that was $900 - $1300 for a 692/UM70. Then I put them up on something and think "don't be an idiot!" Luckily that week I had some old friends over to rehearse for a benefit gig they roped into, put them up about 2 feet out as vocal/guitar mics on me and the other singer and I was blown away at the single mic capture. Can't comment on the reliability of a used capsule - it's used. I'm sure if you buy one from a reliable seller - retail or private - on the higher end of the price scale, you'd be fine, but you know, old sh!t breaks. It's my understanding from the Gefell Repair thread in the remote forum on GS that they only have factory repairs in Europe and it takes awhile to get them serviced. There were some in the classifieds a few months back, I think. Good luck! Definitely a workhorse mic. My experience with Gefell repair was stellar. I had an M-295 (bought it new in the early 2000s) that needed some work. I contacted Gefell to ask how to send it over for repair, and then sent it over. They had it for maybe 3 or 4 weeks and returned it promptly to me. The work was perfect, mic was like new, charges were very reasonable; in fact, less than they had estimated. I remain impressed with their mics, but I've only bought ones since 2000; mine aren't vintage. I love 'em. Highly recommended. Regards, -09

Yeah, the M295's I used on piano once sounded great.

Is it possible to replace the M7 in older Gefell mics with a K47? Has anyone tried that?
I’ve been eyeing Gefell mics for years, but I worry about the condition of the older M7 capsules.

I have not replaced my M7 with a K47, but the M7 in my 80's UM70S is in fine shape. I think the "M7's go bad over time" thing is a bit overblown. You can get an M7 from Thiersch, and while it's not a "perfect" copy, neither is the M7 that Gefell produces.

Dr. Bill's drum mic thread on another site is what sold me on the 692's so I bought some with M71 and M70 caps. Love 'em. Also, love my newer M930's as well. Can't go wrong with the Gefells. Thanks, Dr. Bill! The Gefell M-930 is stunning. And it seems to be largely unknown. A long-time fave of mine for sure. -09 I special ordered my Gefell M930's back in the early 2000's when they first came out. I think i was probably the first person in my state to even have a pair. Never letting them go.

Picked up a new umt70s recently and love it. It really upped my game.

Well, they're different from the UM(t)70S. They use the M9 capsules (same backplate as M7 but uses mylar instead of PVC for the membrane). They're super clean, super quiet and completely neutral sounding. The top end is smooth as well. Sources will sound exactly as they are with no coloration. I'd say they're probably the most accurate sounding LDC I've ever used.

Interesting, I'd describe the umt70s the same way...its a very "honest" sound mic IMO, without much color but not sterile or boring either. Its pretty much lived on acoustic guitar since I bought it, and I've tried in on vocals a few times just to hear the sound, but still need to experiment with it more.

With my um70s, I find it more "thick" in the midrange and softer in the highs, while being slightly less heavy in the bottom end than the m930. You could say that they do kinda have a gefell sound of you listen to them side by side

Is one better than other? Or preferable on different things?

In that price range, it was between the M930 and Soundelux U195 for me. But then... I won a U195, at the Bock Booth drawing! I'd love to try the transformer version sometime though. BTW I probably would have gotten a used M930 or U195 otherwise. Chris

I've heard a few folks compare them to U87s but I've never tried them side-by-side.

For me, the 930 works on so many things, and is stunning.

Actually, the "T" version is TransformerLESS. Gefell is so confusing....

Actually, the "T" version is TransformerLESS. Gefell is so confusing.... And to confuse any and all ever more, the Ts in this case means it has a transformer. Thank you Microtec Gefell. The m930Ts is larger and about a grand more expensive than it diminutive little sister.

The "T" in the UMT70s means transformerless, but the "T" in M930Ts means transformer. Gefell hasn't had the best record with this and it makes discussing their models confusing!

Usually the M930 is pointed at my guitar and the UMT70S aimed at my head. They go together well because they seem to compliment each other's soft spots.
