Just got this album. Big Gill fan here, and so impressed with the sound on every album counting from 'Last kiss goodbye' and later. This, no exception btw, was mixed at Blackbird and recorded at 'The House'. I googled but couldn't find anything about The House. Is that something you Nashville guys know anything about?

the 45 degree angle between the lower channel strips and meter bridge say "API", but the knobs on what look like the eq section, don't look api to me??? the meter bridge does indeed look trident, but i've never seen a trident with a 45 degree in it?? I am by no means a console expert though. What ever it is, they get some great sounds between there and blackbird. I'd bet every last one of those 100 guitars on that wall sound absurdly good.

I had the chance to record Vince at his place on an Amy Grant track. One of the highlights of my career so far. Killer player, great guy, great gear and he is a fountain of ideas. Honestly you could go grab any amp and guitar combo and he would make it sound like magic. It's all about his talents.

Jeeez, thanks for linking that clip!! I'm even a bigger fan now. So... that's The House?
edit: Re the desk, the link inspired to check other Gill clips, and on another clip you can clearly see it's an expanded API 1608 edit2: JK nailed it, The House is the name of Gill's home studio. Confirmed in the YouTube clip I'm checking right now (a 35 min clip made by Premier guitar)

Yeah, it's a 1608.
His guitars are unreal. The studio is all fender tweed! Very cool looking. He has cool ISO boxes built into the cabinets below the windows along with really neat storage for his electric guitars. Very well thought out and great vibe!
Almost all the gear is modern. His amps and guitars are vintage and they have a great m269! But I was shocked how most of the recording gear was new.

I catch it every time I'm in town. It wouldn't be the same show without Vinny.

cowboycoalminer Man, thanks for directing me to the Time jumpers! I've been YouTubing a little and have to agree. Music doesn't get better than this. Different yes, but not better. Love the casual style of the show combined with the stellar performance. Have never heard Vince as bluesy and fired up as in this clip, specially in the last vocal chorus. I'm more and more thinking I have to make the trip to Nashville pretty soon...

That was the weekend of Tin Pan South. Practically every heavy hitter in the business was there that night. Set right beside Tony Brown Emery Gordy and Patty. She got up with em and belted one, too. This video doesn't come close to doing them justice. Every other second I'd get chills. Brother, if you ever get the chance, see one in person. It's worth the trip.

That's wonderful cowboy. Mr. Gill seems like such a rare person. When I saw the video with all those vintage guitars, I couldn't help but think I'd love to hear The Cannon side by side. I always figured when I get to Nashville, I'd bring my Doyle Dykes Taylor, it sounds good live and isn't too precious to travel, but if I knew I could stop by The House for a brief visit, I'd take it with me.
Great videos guys, thanks so much, they made my day.
Oh, "The Cannon", refers to my two of a kind Martin-D41 Custom Turbo, and mine was the better of the two !

I worked with Vince in the early part of his career in the early 80s when I was Monitor engineer and system tech for Pure Prairie League. Even in his early 20s he was a great guy and a first class musician with an incredible voice. You Could tell he was going places. This is Vince around fall of '82. Gary

On our first visit to Nashville in 2001 my wife and I walked into the Station Inn, listened to half of the first Time Jumpers tune, turned to each other and agreed we were out of San Francisco! We'd each moved there for the music. Hearing the Jumpers brought it crashing home that the great music we'd sought had been MIA for a couple decades. We had the honor of taking Lee Hazlewood out to hear them. He told me this is the band Bob Wills would have given anything to have. He'd grown up driving all over Texas with his dad to Bob Wills gigs and Wills had even given him his first piggy back ride. The only live swing I'd ever heard previously was the Count Basie Band once in college. Recordings really do not do this music justice!

We used to go see Buddy Spicher in the late 90's down on Broadway - Western Swing...amazing. This video is pretty loose, but the band I saw was tight as hell.

Just found this. This was shot about 3 weeks before I started working for these guys. Look how young Vince is.

Thanks for posting! Even though this is lip sinked like most things were back then, music doesn't get much better than this example. Just awesome stuff.

Wasn't this done with a "TV Mix"? Music bed off the record, but live vocals.
I used to mix every record like that... back in the day. I still get requests for going back to the mixes and make TV mixes for singles.
