I have no experience with hardware Harrison, so I probably just shouldn't contribute...but I found the UAD Harrison EQ to be really, really nice in the top end. I never bought it, but it seemed to be nicer than some of the others...

If you wan't to hear what an IC shitting itself sounds like, stick a 1K load across a TL074. I'm surprised they're being used here, a 5532 could probably replace them. But now I'm sounding like one of THOSE guys. Svart, you don't have any good literature on filter design you'd recommend? It really is where I fall down on things. I mean, amongst all the other things I fall down on this is the worst. Check out the Active Filter Cookbook by Lancaster. When I get home I'm going to simulate the Harrison filter. I'm kind of curious if the Chop Shop EQ I just released can be set to emulate the Harrison filter shape....sans TL074 grunge of course. Hmmm.... Brad

Tony, You can come over and work on my Harrison console. Bought it new in 1981. Just recently completly rebuild it as per Jim Williams mods. The filters are great. Use them all the time. When you sweep through them there's no "analog synth filter sweep" noise. The E.Qs have multicap caps. You can crank through the E.Q.s no swishing noise. Full on low E.Q., no mud, Full on Highs, no tinny fizz. No spit. The board never sounded so good.

I have a pair of the great river Harrisons. I like the hi pass...it has a cool shoulder bump but kinda not precise enough for kicks or basses for me. The low pass is too steep for me. The chop shops that Brad made are my favorite filters right now but they're really a lot more than filters with the tilt EQ. Brad is being humble when he calls them filters. They rule. I just mixed an EP with ALMOST ONLY filters as an experiment. ITB with mc dsp filter bank F2 and almost no other EQ. It's not released yet so I can't post any tracks. It's a girl named Penny Birdrabbit on Atlantic. It was kinda fun and I feel like I got to really start understanding the methodology of filters. I hope they aren't reading this. They'll want a discount! I have a pair of the moog 500 filters. They're fun but noisy! I like the drive on them but I use them for distortion and extreme shaping more than standard filtering.

No way bro, it's like a home builder using a nail gun instead of a hammer/ nail, you're still building a house 8) im quite intrigued with Brads chop shop! Gotta give it a roll, I'm sure it kills!

Currently on a guitar FX spree, but hopefully I get back to a point (fiscally) where I can start looking at some of this stuff more earnestly.

I simply call them "cheating". But shhh...don't tell anybody or we're going to run out of stock and then not have any to sell while I wait for another production run to come through. Seriously though...the Chop Shop is way more versatile than I even initially imagined it would be. It kind of became more than the sum of its parts, which is really cool. I'm going to be recording a record with a band called The Bang in April and I'm really looking forward to using my Chop Shops and Electras for all the EQ'ing. On a related note, I finally had a chance to simulate those Harrison high pass filters. If you engage the "More" switch and set "Bump" to 10:15 then you can achieve the same filter shape with the Chop Shop...with much less op amp grunge/distortion of course. My LPF (Hi-Cut) has a similar amount of resonance to the Harrison LPF when the 0.5X switch is engaged...a little bit more. I think I'm going to add these tips to the manual. Brad

It was hard man. I cheated a time or two and pulled up a parametric EQ but 99% of it was filters only. My assistant was just shaking his head and laughing. Fuck it.

Brad I only have the GR Harrison's and don't have any experience with the real ones but I gotta say "on" is too much for most of my needs with the low pass on the harrys. I get WAY more use out of your low pass.
