putting aside the bewildering apologizing for what is clearly awful?? I'd like to point out, there was plenty of boy bands and teenybopper pop in the 70's, but there was a ton of great shit coming out as well, the COLOSSAL difference back then was, the PUBLIC KNEW THE DIFFERENCE.

Neil Young isn't much of a singer, neither is Bob Dylan yet both manage to communicate very well to their audience. I agree with what another poster said regarding her speaking being more cringe worthy than the vocals. I often do scratches here with performers that are by no means something we would want anyone outside the room to hear. Seriously bad idea comparing legendary american icon artists, to the likes of a TS...? Money has NOTHING to do with it, 8 years from now, when the wrinkles show up on her face, the vast majority people will say "taylor who?"(see it starting to happen to Britney spears www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2430158/Bad-news-Britney-Spears-Sales-dismal-singers-Las-Vegas-amid-reports-lip-syncing-rep-says-true.html). 100's of years from now people will still be enjoying the tremendous art of Bob Dylan.

Actually, a really good comparison. The only thing more unpleasant than listening to either of them sing is listening to innocent animals being tortured. Great songs, but whoa boy, at the best of times, kind of hard to listen to. I see Taylor Swift as the antidote to Brittney Spears, Fergi and many others. To THAT demographic, that is. If I need to listen a great singer-songwriter who can make me feel anything he is feeling, to the point of causing my jaw to hit my chest, I'll listen to Jude Cole or Keb'Mo.

I wont lie, sometimes I'm physically angry that these girls are what kids are listening to while Nina Nastasia is making the kind of high art she does playing on Russian TV networks that mis-spell her song titles.

If you think you've heard every permutation of the folky singer songwriter, try her out. Songs like Roadkill are heart pumping stuff! I was convinced I'd never like a singer songwriter again until a friend recommended it cause I'm "An Albini Nerd" and he recorded her stuff. Loads of Americana, folk, world music and rock references in her stuff. And, maybe most importantly here, she's sincere sounding. You should post clips of your modded guitar. Especially doing an old song where you have done the parts on the same guitar, that'd be really insightful! Has it gotten it's debut yet? Last point I'm gonna throw out. I was raised on Neil Young and I love his work. Same with The Beatles. Elton John I appreciate. I was recently extremely saddened by Lou Reed dying. But Bob Dylan? Never got him. Or The Doors. Or Springsteen. Just saying.

Predicting the future is futile. She sold out the stadium here, only a very elite class of artists do that and she's one of them. I'm not saying there aren't better vocalists and I'm not really what one would call a fan. I'm just saying that you can be a great artist and not a great singer at the same time. Neil Young and Bob Dylan are perfect examples of great artists who aren't really great technical singers. Although Neil if I recall correctly can't sell out the stadium here and it's his hometown.

Well this video pretty much explains why artists like Taylor , who maybe don't completely suck , but aren't anything special , that are pretty average musicians become super stars . Its all about presentation and HYPE !!!
Talent doesn't equal Famous these days , the general public is TOO STUPID to judge things for themselves , whos really talented and whos not , or what music is good and what music sucks . You can present average , generic , forgettable artists as the next big thing and people will believe they are .

Hmm. I just listened to the video.. It's totally OBVIOUS that this is just a writing/arrangement session and she's not really even trying. Maybe it's just me, but I rarely push vocalists to do real takes until everything in the song is in alignment. This allows the vocalist to ease into the groove, save their voice and warm up all at the same time. Works a lot better than just forcing them to do take after take. Some can do it, some can't.
Anyway, i think being critical of a random youtube video of an artist working out arrangements is kinda being nitpicky.

I say we form a Mob and burn Taylor at the stake , for shes a WITCH !! By which metric can we ascertain her degree of witchery? If she floats in water, is that enough? Cos there's an awful long list of those I'd like to throw in water. HAHA

If earnings were based on talent, 95% of todays popstars would be flat broke sleeping under the overpass.
