Waves Electric 88
This sounds pretty good.. of course it's a demo video and the guy is playing it well, but the sounds are pretty legit. I have been using DB-33 to do a lot of my dirty keyboard stuff, but it tends to sound a bit more muffled. This has that dirty contact thing that I saw Korg putting into their newer keyboards, gives that bright punch to the darker vintage signal.
Any other suggestions that could be worth trying plugin wise for great keyboard sounds? Or would I be putting down more than 39 bucks if I did?

The DB33 is actually a fantastic Hammond organ and Leslie can simulator. Perhaps I can send you some of my settings if you find it muffled. I'll just email the settings files.
As for the electric 88? I'm sure it's a giant leap over many built-in or add-on electric piano settings. Mini-Grand is a pretty good built in 6' -7' Grand Piano type around bank but that doesn't cover electric pianos, Wurlies, 73s 88s, Pianets, Clavinets etc... and the builtins with PT leave a lot to be desired, which makes me keep my old Wurly and Hohners back and forth to the repair shop on a semi-annual basis to have decent authentic sounds.
I'm rambling... somebody slip me some Rohipnol.

They come up in 2016 with something that Emagic did 20 years ago called EVP 88. LOL

They come up in 2016 with something that Emagic did 20 years ago called EVP 88. LOL I had it and couldn't use it for a couple of reasons. 1. The old Powermac didn't have enough horsepower to run everything 2. It really didn't sound that convincing in the mix.

PPC is a long time ago my first Mac laptop was PPC and that was around 2001. 2. It makes sense to read the EVP manual. Play it with some real guitar amps or some amp Sims, use pre or post saturation to your taste. Works wonderful in any mix I did with it. 3. There was someone named Herbie Hancock using the EVP from day one on. I saved some presets with pre and post processing... It never let me down. I do not see a problem to get some authentic sounds from the EVP. Only the real deal will beat it, but thats true for most of the VSTIs.

Yeah, 32 bucks for a good VI isn't bad, I took the plunge. I still need something for polysynth arpeggiation dance stuff though, and I wanted to get softube's british console.. I just don't want to spend all my money again! hahahaha

How's it compare to Scarbee Rhodes for kontakt or logic's evp88?

Not sure about Logic's evp88, but I think the new Waves in use is better than the Scarbee if you like to tweek things up a bit. Being able to adjust the amount of mechanical noise, tines, and key up is actually really useful. Those parameters are really useful in getting the right sound and having it give you the feel you want in the track. I sold my Rhodes 88 years ago, but this new Waves plugin is pretty sweet.

What kind of rhodes did they emulate? Mark 1? Mark V?

You use those? That Soniccouture does look pretty rad. And it's on sale through NI right now for half off.

How's it compare to Scarbee Rhodes for kontakt or logic's evp88? Demo Scarbee and test yourself I think scarbee sounds lame compared to the EVP.

Well speaking as a pianist and "jazz" is my thang (a lifetime pretending I'm Donald Fagen:-) I have to say this new VI from Waves is fantastic!
I'm really blown away.
To be honest for me it's the best keyboard VI I've ever bought and the fact it cost me £23 is crazy - don't tell Waves but I'd of probably paid £230!
Hopefully they'll do some more bargain VI's!

I'd like to pick up either one of these two. Which do you dig more, the Electric88 or the Broken Wurli? Is there a lot of overlap? Which is more versatile?

Electric88 is more versatile on its own and probably more useful. I do like, however, blending the two.
