What I noticed the most was the quality of the low end. When some bands go "Americana", they tend to over-boom the bass drum like a Tom Waits record or Raising Sand, the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss record, among other things. It was perfect for them because of the connection to John Bonham, but for others, not so much, it comes off like a gimmick.
This track had all the power the low end should have, but none of the attention grabbing nonsense. Also, the vocal hangs up nicely at the proper height in the soundstage, even though it's not trying to be real big.

It was a native American floor drum complete with native American, Sayota Knight, who has a band called Anasazi Secret, who are also clients of the studio with a couple of records recorded here under their belt. He even blessed the drum before we hit record. Attachment Deleted

That's so cool. I love when it when my ears notice something and I make an innocent comment. I was hearing something different and very right in the low end, but didn't know what it was, so I assumed it was an unassuming bass drum :-)
